People Looking for People
We've taken a new approach to this section. It's been re-organized by Henry Lichtenstein as an online spreadsheet. Rather than publish the list here, it's now available below. If you have found the person you are looking for, please let the editors know so the name can be removed from the list. If there's someone you're looking for, just send your request and we'll be happy to add it to the list. If anyone knows these folks, send an email to:

HICKSVILLE VIETNAM WAR ERA MEMORIAL - PROJECT UPDATE
Donations in April even surpassed March's surge with $1,690 in new receipts, bringing the current donation total to $13,572 toward our needed goal of $25,000 to build and maintain the Memorial!
Fifteen new donors in March brings our total list of donors to 133 individuals, couples and organizations. If each HixNews reader can contribute as little as $10, we will achieve our goal. Please remember, all donations are tax deductibile.
We owe a special thank you to the Hicksville High School Alumni Foundation's John Maniec and his committee for allowing us to participate with a front door donation table at their gala April 15th Fundraiser and in addition to that, providing a portion of their own fundraising proceeds from that event to us.
The March arrival of the Memorial's Center Plaque, now framed, mounted on a stand and residing at the Hicksville VFW Post, also enables our treasurer, Bill Walden, to have it on display at additional donation sites, as was done for the HHS Alumni Foundation event. Please see Bill's article, complete with pictures, covering the Center Plaque's arrival at his home, moving it to the VFW and participating in the HHS Alumni Foundation fundraiser in this issue's Newslettersection
An alphabetical list of donors through April, along with details you will need to mail in your donation, can be viewed in this month's MEMORIAL UPDATE in the Honoring Our Veterans section of the newsletter. 133 donors represents roughly 7% of the HixNews subscriber list. We are very appreciative of those donors, but obviously the $25,000 goal will easily be achieved if many of you who have yet to contribute, do so as soon as possible.
As in the past, when you visit this month's detailed UPDATE in The Honoring Our Veterans section of this newsletter, please remember that clicking on the two links near the bottom of the page will bring you to the complete Confirmed and Unconfirmed Lists of Names as of the end of April. And, If you have any new information to send us, please email it to me at

Memory Lane
Then & Now
On Thursday evening, April 14th, three old HHS friends and now Florida residents got together for dinner at the famous St. Armand's Circle in Sarasota. John Valenti, John (Bingo) Korothy and Joe Carfora, good friends from the Class of 1962 at Hicksville High, had not been together for at least 14 years! In addition to a great Italian meal, we had a lot of fun catching up and laughing about some old times.
Pictured are Dianna & John Valenti, Bing & Anne Korothy, and Joe Carfora. Joe's wife, Sharon, was visiting their daughter's family at that time, so we all decided to do it again soon, when Sharon can be there.

Teen's Small Gesture For 2 Cops Leads To Incredible Kindness
Like many police officers these days, Officer Rance Quinn of The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department has been feeling a waning lack of support for the work he does. For over 20 years, Officer Quinn has dedicated his life to serving and protecting. But the recent criticism directed toward cops is finally starting to get to him. "It just seems like there's a lot of anti-police type of activity going on," he told WDAF. "I know we're unwanted but it makes us feel like we're under-appreciated."
But recently, something happened that reignited Officer Quinn's confidence. He and Captain George Sims went to eat lunch at a Chili's restaurant. In mid-conversation, a teenage girl approached them, dropped a napkin on their table, and casually walked away. The two officers looked down at the napkin and realized there was a note scribbled on top.
"Thanks for keeping us safe."
Taken aback by the unexpected message, Officer Quinn tried to get up and thank the teen, but it was too late. She and her family disappeared from the restaurant. Every day since, Officer Quinn has kept the napkin in his pocket and carries it everywhere he goes.
When Officer Quinn and Captain Sims went to pay for their lunch, their server said something that stunned them once again. And what followed was a chain reaction of kindness that's gone viral with tens of thousands of shares.
"As many of you are aware there has been a significant anti police movement over the last few years. It can cause those of us in Law Enforcement to want to give up. It seems though that the normally silent supporters are speaking out to support the profession.
As an example yesterday a coworker and I met at Chili's for lunch to discuss many things. We were surrounded by people on all sides.
As a nearby table got up to leave a teenage girl from that table laid a napkin on our table that said 'Thank you for keeping us safe.' This young lady touched us in a way she might not have realized and before we could react to it the family walked out. We sat there and talked about what a fantastic gesture.
Next a female walked up with two young kids and told us that her 5 yr old son who is deaf always wanted to meet a police officer. We interacted with our young friend. They walked off.
As we finished our meals and asked for our checks the waitress told us the table behind us bought our food. That was the table that left us our note. The waitress spoke about how much she supported us and could not thank us enough. What great people."
