Welcome to the Holiday Season. When we think of December, we think of snow, celebrations, Santa, lit menorahs, and kinaras. There are many holidays taking place. There are also many festivities and celebrations taking place in and around Hicksville. Let’s mark down some of these in our calendars.

John Maniec, HHS Class of 1964 Graduate, is running in the Bethel Primary Election.
John Maniec is one of four candidates running in a Townwide Democratic Primary Election for Bethel Town Council. The town of Bethel, New York, is where Woodstock was held in 1969. The Town of Bethel's Democratic Primary Election for Town Council is scheduled for June 24, 2025. Four candidates - John Maniec, Nicole Newick, Paula Moss, and Cliff Manning - are running, and registered Democrats will get to vote for two candidates.

Walt Staehle, Class of 1972, Needs a Kidney

Walt Staehle was very active at Trinity, active in Boy Scouts, became an Eagle Scout, and won several scouting and church awards. He raised two sons, one of whom still serves as a US Navy Captain. If he’s lucky to receive a kidney, he’s the kind of person who would continue to give back to society as long as he’s able. In that picture of 8 kids in a line, Walt is the guy in the middle wearing the maroon shirt. I’m the guy on the right in the trench coat on our high school trip to Germany in ‘72.

Hicksville High classes used to have pages in the yearbook that highlighted students who were selected as Best Looking, Most Likely to Succeed, Best Athlete, Best Musician, Best Actor, and other categories. The profile this month shows the "Best Looking" for years beginning in 1956 through 1965 when it appears that precedence stopped. Check out all these handsome people and let me know who you think, guy and gal, is your choice for "Best Looking"?

Hicksville Public Schools 36th Annual Scholars Dinner
Class of 2024

The 36th Annual Scholars Dinner was held on April 11, 2024, at the Crest Hollow Country Club to honor 91 students from Hicksville High School’s Class of 2024. The graduating seniors distinguished themselves through their academic performance, ranking in the top 20% of their graduating class. Each student received an award, a cord to wear on their graduation gown, and a box containing a beautiful golden apple. In addition, the valedictorian and salutatorian received special awards. It was a beautiful evening, and the dinner was delicious!
