People Looking for People
We've taken a new approach to this section. It's been re-organized by Henry Lichtenstein as an online spreadsheet. Rather than publish the list here, it's now available below. If you have found the person you are looking for, please let the editors know so the name can be removed from the list. If there's someone you're looking for, just send your request and we'll be happy to add it to the list. If anyone knows these folks, send an email to:

HICKSVILLE VIETNAM WAR ERA MEMORIAL - PROJECT UPDATE
February donation activity was very slow, with only $70 received, putting the current donation total at $10,407 toward our needed goal of $25,000 to build and maintain the Memorial.
Three new donors in February brings our total list of donors to 95 individuals, couples and organizations. If each HixNews reader can contribute as little as $10, we will achieve our goal. Donations had steadily improved over the past three months before slowing in February, so please help us reenergize our progress in 2016 by sending us a contribution to enable the Memorial to become reality!!
Please remember, all donations are tax deductibile. An alphabetical list of donors through January, along with details you will need to mail in your donation, can be viewed in this month's MEMORIAL UPDATE in theHonoring Our Veterans section of the newsletter. 95 donors represents just under 5% of the HixNews subscriber list. We are very appreciative of those donors, but obviously the $25,000 goal can easily be achieved if many of you who have yet to contribute, do so as soon as possible.
The Confirmed List of Names did not change in February and remains at 1,904 names, however, additional missing data was again added. The Unconfirmed List remains unchanged. We continue to need the help of all readers to fill in missing data on the Confirmed List and to help us qualify the names shown on the Unconfirmed List.
As in the past, when you visit this month's detailed UPDATE in The Honoring Our Veterans section of this newsletter, please remember that clicking on the two links near the bottom of the page will bring you to the complete Confirmed and Unconfirmed Lists of Names as of the end of February. And, If you have any new information to send us, please email it to me at

Special Spring Concert at the High School in April
The HHS Alumni Foundation will be sponsoring a concert in the high school auditorium on Friday evening, April 15, 2016 from 8pm to 1030pm featuring class of 1969 Paul Korman's great musical group, Dr. K's Motown Revue. Tickets are $15.00 each. Proceeds are going for scholarships, create and install an Alumni Wall of Honor in the main lobby of the high school plus a portion of these proceeds are to be given to Hicksville Vietnam Veterans' Memorial. The main office of the high school will have tickets available for sale or people who wish to attend can send their checks payable to HHS Alumni Foundation, Inc to: John Maniec, 223-28 A 65th Avenue, Oakland Gardens, New York 11364. There is no assigned seating. Auditorium holds 800. Refreshments will be sold during the intermission.
"Coney Island Korman" and his Dr. K's Motown Review has been around a long time. Paul graduated back in 1969 and loved music his entire life. His primary goal was to put together a group of musicians and singers that he met along the way who love the Motown Sound. His goal was accomplished and the entourage of talent has appeared at Lincoln Center, Mohegan Sun, Central Park, United Nations, BB Kings and in the Band Box at Jones Beach.

Stories that Make You Think, "What If?"
- Today, after a 72 hour shift at the fire station, a woman ran up to me at the grocery store and gave me a hug. When I tensed up, she realized I didn't recognize her. She let go with tears of joy in her eyes and the most sincere smile and said, "On 9-11-2001, you carried me out of the World Trade Center ."
- Today, at the age of 70, my grandfather graduated from college with a bachelor's degree in business studies. He's been a successful business owner most of his life, but he told me he earned his degree to fulfill a promise he made to his mother before she lost her battle with cancer 50 years ago.
- Today, my mom is a healthy 54 year old who successfully owns and operates a popular bakery downtown - a goal she had all her life. 15 years ago she was diagnosed with cancer. In the face of death, she quit her store clerk job, opened the bakery, started chemo therapy, and succeeded on all fronts.
- Today, after I watched my dog get run over by a car, I sat on the side of the road holding him and crying. And just before he died, he licked the tears off my face.
- Today, as a young 'up and coming' lawyer, everyone in the firm was congratulating me for winning my first big case this morning. And all day long all I could think about is how I used a technicality in the law to help a murderer walk away a free man.
- Today, on our 50th wedding anniversary, she smiled at me and said, "I only wish I had met you sooner."
- Today, after 2 years of separation, my ex-wife and I resolved our differences and met for dinner. We laughed and chatted for almost 4 hours. Then just before she left, she handed me a large envelope. In it were 20 love letters she wrote me over the last 2 years. There was a post-it note on the envelope that said, "Letters I was too stubborn to send."
- Today, when I slipped on the wet tile floor a boy in a wheelchair caught me before I slammed my head on the ground. He said, "Believe it or not, that's almost exactly how I injured my back 3 years ago."
- Today, someone else's tragedy provided the miracle my family had prayed for. Thanks to this stranger, my dad will have a heart. It's so odd to think that an accidental death just saved his life.
- Today marks the ten year anniversary of the day when I slapped him and screamed at him remorselessly for not letting me in the bathroom after we ate breakfast. That moment also marks the positive turning point in my battle with Bulimia. I think he saved my life that day.
