Dear Buffalo Bob,

Last week I met with Bob McDevitt who heads up the Levittown Vietnam Memorial Plaque effort after learning he lived near me in Florida . What a coincidence! Bob shared their final plaque with me, which I'd appreciate having published in HixNews' July 1 issue.

Thanks to a member of their Project Team who read an issue of HixNews, you put me in touch with them to confirm three Levittown residents who were killed in action (KIA) that appear on our List of Confirmed Names, as they attended Hicksville High. Since their list of names includes the high school attended, you can see who they are by referring to the attached list Bob gave me.

I also shared our work with Bob. They will have the attached list turned into a plaque for presentation and display at the Levittown Historical Society Museum, but after hearing of our work may also consider a Memorial Stone to be displayed somewhere in Levittown. During the Vietnam War Era, Levittown had four high schools; Island Trees, Memorial, MacArthur and Division and a total of 37 people who paid the ultimate price in that war appear on the plaque to honor them. Bob told me that sometime after the baby boom generation, Levittown Memorial was closed, as the remaining three high schools are now sufficient to accommodate the current population.

Best regards,
Joe

Hicksville Vietnam War Era Memorial - PROJECT UPDATE

NEWS FLASH !!! Official IRS approval was received verbally in June for our not-for-profit (NFP) Fund Raising Account! As soon as we receive the formal letter from the IRS, we will open our bank account to begin receiving donations for construction of the Memorial.

Three new names were added in June for a new total of 1,886 names on the Confirmed List. Unfortunately, very little progress was made during the month on the Unconfirmed List of Names and we urgently need the help of the HixNews readership to verify whether or not the 186 people on this list qualify to be included in the Memorial and to continue to assist us in filling in still missing data from the Confirmed List of Names.

To view the complete report on the Memorial's progress, please see this month's update by clicking on the Honoring Our Veterans tab of this newsletter. Clicking on the two links near the bottom of the update will bring you to the complete Confirmed and Unconfirmed Lists of Names as of the end of June.

Please remember, if you have any new information to send us, my email address is This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
