To all our alumni...

Due to a lack of interest in HixNews Profiles, we've decided to change the heading in the taskbar to Alumni of the Month. We have chosen Tommy Sullivan from the class of 1963 as the first recipient for this honor. There are so many successful alumni who have gone above and beyond in their lives over the years that deserve to be honored in subsequent issues of the newsletter.

The editors ask that you not only make a recommendation, but please put together a sketch of the life of the person you believe should be highlighted. The profile for Tommy was done in a word perfect format. You can do it in a PDF format if that is your preference.

The editors have been asked by Tommy about any upcoming reunions for the class of 1963. We checked with Classmates and saw the following.

I think we should have a 50 year class reunion in 2013 and would like to know if anyone would be interested in attending. Would also like to hear your ideas on when, where and how much you would like this to happen. It might be fun to include the 1962 and 1964 classes to attend. We all knew people from both those classes. Please let me know what you think.

p.s. Tommy said he would be glad to provide the music for the evening. His thought was to get his high school band together once again.

Thanks
love da buff

Hicksville Vietnam War Era Memorial - PROJECT UPDATE

Two names were added in April for a new total of 1,776; a very fitting yet coincidental number as we remember this month those who paid the ultimate price to defend this nation of ours that was founded nearly 236 years ago.

This past month we concluded that we have all but completed our search for new names.  Our research now turns to filling in missing data for the names we already have.  Our objective remains to not miss anyone who meets the qualifications and deserves to be included in the Memorial and you can still help make this happen.

On behalf of The Project Team,
Joe Carfora, HHS '62

Memory Lane

Patricia Koziuk Driscoll: 1938 - 2009

Three years ago, Hicksville Newsletter, and the community lost a true friend who worked diligently on providing former alumni with much sought after nostalgia. Pat Koziuk Driscoll, who graduated Hicksville High in 1956, compiled most of the material that was included in each issue of HixNews. She spent countless hours copying and pasting information on multiple pages.

HixNews started out as a two or three page email that was sent to some 100 or so readers. Eventually, it evolved into a multi page newsletter that was placed onto its own website and was supported with many special features. It was fortunate that Pat saw many of the changes that surfaced over the years.

Most probably never knew that Pat was not in the best of health because she was never looking for sympathy or an "attaboy!" She didn't complain but just kept going like the energizer bunny. Pat shared time with her Florida pals shopping and fraternizing despite needing special consideration over the years. Pat spent most of her last year on oxygen 24/7. She loved her portable transportation (a golf cart) that allowed the mobility she lacked because of her dependence on oxygen. Her death created a void that exists today.

Pat's efforts brought many hours of joy to the readers who waited patiently each month for tidbits of information. Pat, along with Linda Piccerelli Hayden, a 1960 graduate, were the pioneers of HixNews. They spent many hours scouring through emails from former students gathering information that was typed into an email and sent out at the beginning of the new month.

Pat was surrounded by family when she was summoned by a higher authority. Not an unusual thing because family was her life. She spent many hours enjoying those she loved most.
