Battle of Long Island August 27-29, 1776   by, Wendy Elkis Girnis, Class of 1977 The vote for the Declaration of Independence took place on July 2nd of 1776.  All of the Colonies voted “Yes” except one.  New York abstained for 9 days because they had not received instructions from their assembly on how to vote.  Because of this, the first printing of the Declaration, the Dunlap Broadside,Dunlap Broadside Copy of Declaration Stone Engraving of the Declaration that says Unanimous Declarationdoes not say “The Unanimous Declaration of...” Fortunately, New York returned with a “Yes” vote, making the vote for Independence unanimous. ...

Diana, this is a great photo of you and your siblings that was taken 60 years ago. I want to post in a future issue of HixNews and was doing some investigating and now I'm totally confused. Two Diana's, one graduating in 1964, and another in 1969. Two Michael's, one graduating in 1966 and the second in 1969. A Carol in 1972 and Joe in 1973; and I could not find Toni in any graduating class. Bring me up to date on who's who???

I attended a meeting of the Town of Oyster Bay Landmarks Commission at Town Hall on Wednesday, October 24, 2024. The meeting was to support Ms. Julie Ugarte, petitioner to save the original firehouse, once known as “Peppercorns”.

The commission reviews all applications for designation of Town landmarks. They are the final arbiters on granting protections for reasons of historical, architectural or antiquarian significance.
