Eileen Baker is the Bank Manager of TD Bank that allowed me to take the photo. The mural in the first gallery below was done originally by Commerce Bank when it was still located on that site. And yes, Mid-Island is now known as the Broadway Mall.
TD Bank Mural
On the left is a photo of a wall mural from TD (Toronto Dominion) Bank, formerly Commerce Bank, located on N. Broadway (Rt. 107) across from the Mid Island Plaza and next to Sears. It shows Hicksville around the turn of the last Century. The LIRR crossing in the background and familiar landmarks will be easily recognizable by long time residents. That is a trolley in the background. I'm told that this photo was colorized from an original photo that was once part of the Nassau County Historical Society collection. Denward W. Collins, Jr. ('53) is President of the Nassau County Historical Society. The photo on the right is the same corner today.
John also sent some pictures of that scene today (click here). Sign*A*Rama is now in the old Huettner's building.
