An Important Announcement to All Hicksville High School Alumni
If you found value in receiving an online issue of HIXNEWS.COM every month, we need your help. A few HHS alumni are attempting to restart HIXNEWS.COM because we miss it deeply. Buffalo Bob Casale’s legacy needs to live on and we are asking for your help.
We have relocated to a new host and are saving a lot of money. The Go Fund Me raised enough for 2 years.
We are looking for writers, editors, and website managers.
We have glorious memories of the Hicksville schools we attended and the friends we made. HIXNEWS.COM made reading about happy events in our former classmates’ lives possible. Of course, some of the news was about old friends passing, but even that sad news made us once again travel down memory lane.
Some of us may be thousands of miles away from Hicksville, but as the back of our HHSAF t-shirt states, “Once a Comet, Always a Comet!” And, if you still live in Hicksville and would contribute an article or two about Hicksville today, that would also be welcome.
If you can help or at least want to see HIXNEWS.COM come alive again, contact us at
Sincerely,
John Maniec (Class of 1964)
A Wonderful By-Product of the Hicksville High School Alumni Foundation's
Dr. K’s Motown Revue Concert on April 22, 2023:
Quality Education Still Thrives in the Hicksville Public Schools!
Close to 300 HHS alumni and local residents descended on the Charles "Chuck" Arnold Theater within Hicksville High School on Saturday, April 22, 2023, for three hours of magnificent professional entertainment provided by Dr. K’s Motown Revue band. Former students of Hicksville High School wandered the first-floor hallways before the concert, remembering the good times growing up in Hicksville.
When the attendees entered, they were greeted by friendly and helpful current HHS students handing them the HHSAF playbill and directing them to get their concert tickets, refreshments, and access to over 40 gift basket raffles.
The colorful playbill contained information on the HHSAF's current goals and mission statement. More importantly, it featured 16 full-color posters promoting the Dr. K concert designed by Mrs. Andolina’s HHS graphic design students. Additionally, it highlighted that during the second set of music, midway through this musical performance, 11 current student musicians would join the Dr. K band on stage to play several songs with them. These youngsters were outstanding, and the audience gave numerous standing ovations. Dr. K’s band members were so impressed with the quality of musical abilities of these students that they named Ms. Weiss’ String Ensemble The Uptown Strings, and Mr. Shmuel’s Wind Ensemble The Downtown Horns. Then the audience was further treated when the band brought HHS music student Nisarg Shah from The Downtown Horns group to center stage to play his saxophone with the band members.
Finally, Mr. Adam Clive’s Video Production crew did an outstanding job recording the concert for further sales to alumni who couldn’t attend in person. In total, over 45 Hicksville High School current students donated their time and energy to make sure this fund-raising concert was successful. In addition to the students who helped HHSAF, its board wishes to thank Chad Wyman, Fine Arts Supervisor for the Hicksville Public Schools, for his assistance in making its concert successful, including his presence at the concert on April 22nd. HHSAF is very fortunate to have had the support of the Hicksville Board of Education early in its concert preparation, with many of its members attending this event too.
Copies of the 16 student-created and designed full-color posters are attached to this article so HHS Alumni can see that quality education still thrives at their old high school.
You can find a copy of the program in the Resources/Files section of the website under General Info.
