People Looking for People
We've taken a new approach to this section. It's been re-organized by Henry Lichtenstein as an online spreadsheet. Rather than publish the list here, it's now available below. If you have found the person you are looking for, please let the editors know so the name can be removed from the list. If there's someone you're looking for, just send your request and we'll be happy to add it to the list. If anyone knows these folks, send an email to:

If you would like to submit a biography for you or a classmate, login and then click on Features/Biographies/Submit a Biography in the main menu, you will be taken to a page that houses questions relating to your schooldays, your family, children, grand kids, college life, military experience and other information about your life. Also, if you go to the menu, and click on Alumni Bios, you can scan through a multitude of sketches already submitted. There is a counter at the bottom of the page. Scan down to see how many sketches have been read to date. As of November 2, 2014, there have been 23,581 sketches read. Note that you must have Word or an equivalent program installed on your computer so that you can open and edit this document before emailing it as an attachment back to the Hixnews editors.
It's been over a month since the 1964 Fifty Year Reunion was held at the Holiday Inn, Plainview. Go to Casale's Corner for a follow up to the reunion. Make note of the memories put onto paper by Arnie Gould. There are interesting excerpts, too, from Arnie's classmates that you will enjoy.
Thanks

Class of 1968...be aware that there is an array of photos in Memory Lane that were taken around the school back in the day. Scanned some photos that were, I assume, taken randomly. Many had no captions, so, if you know who the people are, send some feedback
Hicksville Historical Society Revisits Howard Johnson's
Remember the days of dining at the place with the Orange roof? Seemed to be one at almost every corner. Now, they are just a memory. Come to the Hicksville Historical Society General meeting on Tuesday, November 25th for a look into the Restaurant. Our guest will be
Bob Schroter, whom used to work at two different Hojo's, and our President Bob Koenig will bring along some pop culture collectables from the famed eatery. The meeting is at the Hicksville Public Library, downstairs in the Kenneth Barnes Community Room, starting 7:15 PM. Refreshments will be served. For more info write
Hicksville Vietnam War Era Memorial - PROJECT UPDATE
HOORAY!! Written tax exempt status has finally been received for the Memorial Organization. Bill Walden is in charge of our fund raising efforts. Please see his note on the HixNews Home Page for details on how you can make a donation to help enable construction and completion of the Memorial.
No new names were added in October and the Confirmed List of Names continues to stand at 1,890. However, some progress was made on missing data for the Confirmed List and qualification for the Unconfirmed List.
Our appeal continues. As Jim Rubins did for the Class of '67 in August, if we can get other class presidents and/or reunion committees to provide us with contact information on the Veterans in their respective classes who we are still missing data for, we can get this task completed. At the same time, we still can use the help of the HixNews readership to verify whether or not the still unconfirmed people on this list qualify to be included in the Memorial and to help us fill in missing data on the Confirmed List also. Remember, every little bit of effort helps!!
Please see the full UPDATE by clicking on the Honoring Our Veterans page of this edition of HixNews. Also, remember that clicking on the two links near the bottom of the UPDATE will bring you to the complete Confirmed and Unconfirmed Lists of Names as of the end of October. And, If you have any new information to send us, please email it to me at
Last, as Veteran's Day once again approaches on November 11th, please plan to honor all Veterans who served to defend the freedom of this great country of ours and especially those who paid the ultimate price in their service.
On behalf of the Project Team,
Joe Carfora, HHS 1962
Dear Alumni
It is only fitting that with Veterans Day 2014 arriving on November 11 that we announce that we have finally received our Hicksville Vietnam Era Memorial Project tax exemption. It was the final hurdle that needed to be overcome for the project to proceed. Thanks to the tireless efforts of Joe Carfora and Ken Strafer we can now begin to bring the memorial to life.
The Hicksville Vietnam Era Memorial will be located at the Hicksville Middle School's Veterans Memorial Park . On Memorial Day 1990, through the efforts of the veterans organizations of Hicksville, the park was officially named Veterans Memorial Park and a plaque was installed designating it so. Today, there are monuments recognizing the sacrifices of Hicksville residents from WWI to the present day conflicts in the Middle East . The Hicksville Vietnam Era Memorial honoring the over 1800 men and women from Hicksville who served during the Vietnam War will be located between the WWI and WWII monuments. All Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies are held at the park.
Semper Fi,
Bill Walden
