Class of 1962 50th Reunion DVD Now Available!!!

The three day weekend of October 5, 2012 already seems like a long time ago, but I know those of you who attended treasure fond memories of the times we shared; the tour of good old HHS, the Friday night welcome get together, Saturday evening's dinner dance and Sunday's brunch . Although a number of months have passed, the work did not end for Bob Casale. Bob not only made the DVD of our past reunions that all of you who attended last October's event received but, out of the goodness of his heart, he has worked hard since then on a new DVD that combines our past with the fresh memories of our 50th, including contributed photos of each of our October events all set to the great music of our high school days. It runs about 50 minutes so you know he's packed a lot of memories into it!

I already have my copy and it's terrific!! I know each of you who attended and many of you who could not attend would love to have a copy too. To order one, please send Bob $5.00 in cash or check (just enough to cover his costs of making and mailing the DVD is all he's asking). If you feel like adding a few dollars to cover his time that would be great too. It takes him an hour and a half for him to make each copy and it took much longer to put the entire production together. Bob is from the Class of '61, but wanted to make sure we'd have these memories, just as he helps produce memories for us each month with HixNews. Please send your request with cash or a check to Bob at the following address and make sure to include your name, address, plus your phone number or email address in the event he has trouble reading your note:

Bob Casale
335 Patton Court
Martinez , GA 30907

Enjoy the DVD! I know you'll agree when you see it that IT'S PRICELESS!!!

Warm regards,
Joe Carfora

Hicksville Vietnam War Era Memorial - PROJECT UPDATE

Three new names were added to the current List of Names in April, for a new total of 1,812.  We're pleased that even at this late date in the Project's time line, new names continue to be added by HixNews readers!

Gains continue to be made in completing information still missing for many of the people on our List, plus focus is being given to a second List of UNCONFIRMED Names that may qualify if we can confirm active duty service during the Vietnam War Era (February, 1961-April, 1975).  This new list was initiated a few months back, so you can review them without having to scroll through the entire confirmed list of over 1,800 names.  There are 144 names on this second list and so far only 8 of them have received final disposition.  We expect to make faster progress on this list once a couple of researchers working in our behalf begin to tackle the National Archives in Washington, D.C. as a reference in attempting to qualify these names.

Please keep up your efforts to review both the Confirmed List of Names and the newer UNCONFIRMED List.  Both are available via two website links located at the bottom of the full Project Update in the Honoring Our Veterans section of this newsletter.  As a HixNews reader, you can continue to be of significant help with the data we are missing, by reviewing both of these lists.  All missing data continues to be noted in red on the List of Names to make it easier for readers to pick up.

Last, as we celebrate Memorial Day on May 27th, please remember our Fallen Heroes from Hicksville.

On behalf of The Project Team,
Joe Carfora, HHS '62

Patricia Koziuk Driscoll, 1938 - 2009

Four years ago, May of 2009, Hicksville Newsletter, and the community lost a true friend who worked diligently on providing former alumni with much sought after nostalgia. Pat, who graduated Hicksville High in 1956, was affectionately known as an editor of the Hicksville Newsletter. She compiled most of the material that was included in each issue of HixNews and spent countless hours copying and pasting information on multiple pages.

HixNews started out as a two or three page email that was sent to some 100 or so readers. Eventually, it evolved into a multi-page newsletter that placed onto its own website and was supported with many special features. It was fortunate that Pat saw many of the changes that surfaced over the years.

Most probably never knew Pat was not in the best of health because she was never looking for sympathy or an "attaboy!" She didn't complain but just kept going like the energizer bunny. Pat shared time with her Florida pals shopping and fraternizing despite needing special consideration over the years. Pat spent most of her last year on oxygen 24/7.

She loved her portable transportation (a golf cart) that provided the mobility she lacked because of her dependence on oxygen. Her death created a void that exists today.

Pat's efforts brought many hours of joy to HixNews readers who waited patiently each month for tidbits of information. Pat, along with Linda Piccerelli Hayden, a 1960 graduate, were the pioneers of HixNews. They spent many hours scouring through emails from former students gathering  information that was typed into an email and sent out the beginning of each month.

Pat was surrounded by family when she was summoned by a higher authority. This was not at all unusual because family was her life. She spent many hours enjoying those she loved most.

Memory Lane

1935-1939 - Pictures of the United States

AFTER YOU LOOK AT THE PICTURES READ THE NOTE AT THE very BOTTOM!

WE ALL NEED A REMINDER

AND WE THINK WE'VE GOT IT BAD!

This was a mere 72 years ago. Makes complaining about no cell service, high gasoline prices, not enough cable channels, seem a bit ludicrous. No credit cards to buy what you want, but don't need!Forward this to remind our kids and others of what really tough times are like.
They don't have a clue.

If you don't know what the Great Depression was, here's the motto: "Use it up -- wear it out", make it do or do without!!!!!This reminds me to be grateful for what I do have.....

Also, check out the following...

Hi Bob

Just received this and as I graduated in 1955, I felt compelled to pass it along for the memories. Hope you enjoy it.

Hank Chupka

p.s - Again, I hope this email finds you & your family well, as well as the Hix News staff, and

continued kudos for all the services you & the staff do for the Hicksville High Alumnae!

Wow....and we were really alive for all these memories.

Of course some of us were mere babies in 1955, some not even born yet.

Did you hear the post office is thinking about charging 7 cents just to mail a letter?

If they raise the minimum wage to $1.00, nobody will be able to hire outside help at the store.

When I first started driving, who would have thought gas would someday cost 25 cents a gallon? Guess we'd be better off leaving the car in the garage.

I'm afraid to send my kids to the movies any more. Ever since they let Clark Gable get by with saying DAMN in GONE WITH THE WIND, it seems every new movie has either HELL or DAMN in it.

I read the other day where some scientist thinks it's possible to put a man on the moon by the end of the century. They even have some fellows they call astronauts preparing for it down in Texas .

Did you see where some baseball player just signed a contract for $50,000 a year just to play ball? It wouldn't surprise me if someday they'll be making more than the President.

I never thought I'd see the day all our kitchen appliances would be electric. They're even making electric typewriters now.

It's too bad things are so tough nowadays. I see where a few married women have to work to make ends meet.

It won't be long before young couples are going to have to hire someone to watch their kids so they can both work.

I'm afraid the Volkswagen car is going to open the door to a whole lot of foreign business.

Thank goodness I won't live to see the day when the Government takes half our income in taxes. I sometimes wonder if we are electing the best people to government.

The fast food restaurant is convenient for a quick meal, but I seriously doubt they will ever catch on.

There is no sense going on short trips anymore for a weekend. It costs nearly $2.00 a night to stay in a hotel.

No one can afford to be sick anymore. At $15.00 a day in the hospital, it's too rich for my blood.

If they think I'll pay 30 cents for a haircut, forget it.

Send a smile to your friends who remember those days!
