Burns Avenue 1961 Sixth Grade......Here we are!!!
Great Work from Peggy Moldovak Gill '67 !!!!!

Sorry it took me so long. Finding the picture was the easy part. I was having a little difficulty in copying and adding the text (i'm not that computer savvy) by I finally did it with a lot of help and encouragement from Jim Romanelli. I did not remember all the boys names but he was able to help me out with that.

I also have 1st grade, 2nd grade and 5th grade if you want those as well. Thanks for sending me the Lee Avenue photo. My husband Tom went to Lee (a year ahead of us) so we both enjoyed looking at it.

Dave Federbush submitted this Lee Avenue picture from 1961 Sixth  Grade....
can you help identify other names of people?

OK, with a LOT of help from many people I have put names in for several more classmates from Mr. Foley's Sixth Grade at Lee Avenue in 1961.

Dave Federbush submitted the original photograph, Jay Kaplan, Kathy Thompson, and  John "Chuck" Coffey were the top name submitters with assistance from Lew Furman, and Tom Hoffman.

There is disagreement whether it is or is not Rich Ericson in the upper right hand corner, so please weigh in with your opinions. Chuck Coffee thinks it is Gary Brennan. I kinda think Chuck is right...again.

The boy in the argyle sweater in front of Frank Koziak is thought of as Billy Mathis or Billy Stathis.

Dear Editors,

Attached is a photo taken at Hicksville High School Shop Class - 1944.

Hicksville High School Shop Class - 1944
Back Row: (1.) Eddie Coleman (2) Tony Miraval
Middle Row: 1. ___2, Paul pan 3. Irwin Botto 4. ____5.___ 6. _ 7. Bobbie Watson 8. ___.Front Row: Teacher Ralph Thompson and E. H. LeBarron, Supt. of Schools.

I hope there is someone reading this article that can fill in the blanks.

I started at East Street School and graduated from Hicksville High School 1945. There were about 80 students that graduated in 1945.

My wife and I are retired in a small gated golf community in Orlando, Florida. My wife, Margaret Reimels pan, was born in East Meadow and graduated in 1945 from Hempstead High School. She had relatives (Reimels and Erb) attending Hicksville High School in the 1940's.

I have been in touch with Jim Valentine and his wife Bernice Lehman Valentine and Emery Postenrieder. Also Edna Giese Rusch, Jean Goettelman LaPointe, Karen Kreib Kaleita & Richard Kaleita live in our community.

My brother, Charles Robert pan (deceased), his wife Jean Shepard pan, and my sister, Norma pan Bischoff (deceased) also graduated from Hicksville High School.

We attended the Florida Hicksville High School Reunion on February 15, 1998 at Ft. Pierce, Florida, arranged by John Uss.

Keep up the good work. We enjoy reading the HixNews on our Computer. Hi to the Class of 1945.

Peggy Gill Moldovak '67 married to Tom Gill '66 has been busy scanning in Burns Ave. elementary school photos. Can you identify any of the unidentified people in these first and second grade photos?

Any corrections?

Here are the officers of the Hicksville Key Club Executive Council meeting 40 years later in Nov. 2007 meeting in a Boston restaurant, in which your father's name was mentioned fondly.

L to R: Pete Arakas '67 who was "Vice President", Franco Campanello '67 who started out as Treasurer but changed to some other office that none of us can remember now; Jim Rubins '67 "Moderator", and John "Chuck" Coffey '67 "President". Dennis Donlon took the picture and he was "Secretary". Patty McNeeley '67 Hix, Chuck's wife, was an honorary member for the evening. Dennis Donlon wasn't able to graduate with us.

Second picture: L to R: Jim Rubins, Dennis Donlon, Jaqui Donlon [Dennis' wife], Pete Arakas, Karen Kellerman [Pete's wife], Franco Campanello, Patty McNeeley [Chuck's wife], and then our illustrious President, Chuck Coffey.

Our first order of business for the Cabinet meeting was: 1) Figuring what happened with the loss of hair over the years and 2) the gaining of girth.....but a good time was had by all remembering all the Key Club activities, fund raising, and frolics.

This was a newspaper article about the 1966 Key Club that was published in April 1994 in the Hicksville Illustrated News.

June is Graduation month.

Picture 1: 13 minutes after all 986 graduates of the Class of 1967 were seated it started a downpour....we think we have the record for the SHORTEST graduation ceremony in Hicksville High School history.....right Mr. Evers?
Picture 2: Leon Galloway, former Principal of Hix High in the mid 1960's then District Administrator with Darelyn Poole '67
Picture 3: Nora Bosnick Horn '67

Remember when you used to wish for "SNOW DAY"?  Hoping that you wouldn't have to turn in that homework [that you didn't do]? I am trying to figure out what year this snow storm hit [1957-1960], but obviously it was a big one; probably worth a day or two of missed school. Our dad would help my brother and me build an igloo in the front yard.

Dear Classmates,

Above is a picture that was taken I think around Christmas of 1964. I was very much in the navy and home on leave before going to the USS LIBERTY. The two people with me are Jane Marcin (Marcinkowski) and Terri Rabinowitz. Does anyone know them and/or their whereabouts? I've often thought about them but was unable to locate. Thanks for your help.

Warm Regards,
Buffalo Bob Casale, '61
