How You Can Protect Your Security

Your role in protecting personal information

• Do not respond to un-solicited e-mails from companies with which you do business requesting that you re-validate personal information or that link to Web sites requesting that you re-validate personal information. Should you receive such an e-mail, contact the company directly via phone or by typing in their home URL directly to determine the validity of the e-mail.

• If e-mails or Web sites contain typographical or grammatical errors, review them carefully as these are often signs of fraud attempts to compromise your information.

• Do not click on "links" you receive in an e-mail message. Open your browser and enter the address directly.

• Do not share your ID or password with anyone.

• Change your password regularly.

• Only provide your personal or account information online to sites you trust and where you initiated the contact.

• Remember to sign off the Web site once you have submitted an application or completed a secure online session.

• When your computer is not in use, shut it down or disconnect it from the Internet.

• Only provide your ID and passcode when your browser indicates an encrypted connection. An encrypted connection is normally indicated by an "https://" in your browser's address bar in front of the address of the page you are visiting.

• If you think you may have provided information to a fraud perpetrator, change your password immediately and monitor your account activity frequently.
  

  Computer virus protection

• Anti-virus protection. If your computer becomes infected with a virus, you could possibly lose information and incur repair expense. Make sure your computer has an anti-virus protection program installed to reduce the risk of your computer becoming infected.

• Automatic upgrades. We recommend that you purchase a program that automatically upgrades your virus protection on a recurring basis. If you currently do not have this automatic upgrade feature, make sure you update your virus detection program weekly and when you hear of a new virus.

• Attachments. We advise not to open attachments or diskettes unless you are certain that you can trust the source. Learn how to manually screen diskettes and attachments if your anti-virus software does not automatically screen for viruses.

• Our apologies to Bonnie Kiernan Fogelberg, 1961 (VA) for misspelling her name in the May newsletter.
  Our apologies to William Hackmack, class of 1966 for misspelling his name last month.

• Sal Mistretta, class of 1962, has been keeping busy. In May he appeared on Law & Order and in Elmer Rice’s play “Counselor at Law” with John Rubenstein at the Bank Street Theater in NYC.

  In reply to the newsletter’s question about the play, Sal wrote:

  “We are scheduled through MAY 30th only. BUT John Rubenstein is negotiating with the Shubert Organization to move to a larger venue IF we are a Hit. If this happens it is not likely to happen in June.

  I am going out to Sacramento in July to perform in THE FANTASTICKS as Henry the OLD ACTOR!!! The irony didn't escape me as I played Matt THE BOY in 1968 on Martha's Vineyard!!

  I have been on LAW & ORDER CI before and have also filmed LAW & ORDER's regular series. But they cut the scenes for time!!! =0-( Unfortunately a guest actor cannot appear more than once a year unless the character is recurring.

  FYI: In the past year I did a Benefit for the Iris Cantor Foundation at the Sheraton..GUYS & DOLLS music..with the likes of Tony Bennett/Vanessa Williams/Whoopi Goldberg/ Frederico & John from the SOPRANOS/ Tony Roberts /Susan Lucci/ Merissa Tomei and some inside industry names as well, that was FUN!!

  Also did a reading of new musical in workshop: M.CLAUDEL about Rodin's Mistress.

  All that and auditions...=0-)

• As a 1958 graduate of HHS I have enjoyed reading the Newsletter. Thanks so much to all of you who have made it possible.

  I moved to Hicksville in the latter part of my Junior year. (I’m not sure too many classmates would remember me.) It was an enjoyable time for me. The last time that I was in Long Island was for the 1988 reunion. Never made it to Hicksville. Reading the newsletter often brings back memories of folks and places that I had forgotten.

  My husband, Tom, and I have just celebrated our 46 Anniversary. We have four children and 3 grandchildren. We've lived in Alaska, D.C., MN and Ohio. My birthday is Oct 4.

  Keep up the good work. I look forward to the news.

  We are now living in Akron, Ohio. We moved here from MN in 1978. It is the longest we have ever lived in one place. For the past 18 yrs I have been running a program, called MOTHERS & OTHERS, sponsored by a Congregational Church in downtown Akron. Although it is a wonderful church, I still remain a faithful Catholic. Tom and I were married in St Ignatius Church, Hicksville. At the time I was living on Bethpage Rd. My best friend was Evie Econopoly who married Pat Sarle (56) Evie’s cousins owned the Sweet Shop.

  As I wrote before, reading the newsletter brings back good memories.

• Ok I want to be included on the birthday list - mine is November 14th. I am a widow now living in Milton, New York. I have one child, a daughter Gina, and two beautiful grandsons, Michael, 5 yrs and Nicholas, 7 months who still reside in Brooklyn. Can't wait till I can get them to join me and the rest of my family living in upstate New York. I enjoy being around my brothers and their families. My nieces and nephews are good fun and company and I like babysitting for them whenever they need me & my "social calander" isn't too crowded, ha ha.

When the lights in the Hampton Ballroom were turned up at midnight, it was a signal for all Hicksville High reunioners to leave. That was the sad part, leaving, because the evening festivities had everyone in a party mood.

Joe Wulfken, a graduate of 1947, was there with Clara Murgola. He arrived early in a 1910 International Harvester that he personally restored. Joe parked the vehicle outside the main entrance to the ballroom. He did that so everyone could catch a glimpse of the historical antique car as they arrived. Some onlookers wanted to know if that was the mode of transportation used to get to our senior prom??!!

As the alumni arrived at the Holiday Inn, they were met at the entrance by Mary O’Shaughnessey, Lillian Manzo (Phoenix, Arizona) and Mike Bisaccio. Soon after checking in at the entrance desk, the arrivals were ushered into the Hampton Ballroom and were immediately entertained by Anton Mure, a graduate of 1968, and his Mid Life Crisis Band playing some great sounds from the sixties.

When Anton wasn’t playing, the Nite Riders, featuring Tommy Sullivan, Bill Jordan, Jimmy Walker and guest guitarist Steve Young, entertained the crowd with an assortment of classical sounds, including some great Beatles tunes. John Foley, an original Nite Rider, could not attend. The Nite Riders band performed while they were in high school.

Tommy was a founding member of the Brooklyn Bridge. It was in early 1968 when a group of musicians Tommy assembled was noticed while performing at the Cloud Nine in Farmingdale during one of the old “Battle of the Bands” contests. An agent for Johnny Maestro was present and liked the group so much, they were asked to join Maestro and the Del Satins as a new group, the Brooklyn Bridge. Also attending was Carolyn Wood who played keyboard for the Bridge and was part of the group when their song, “The Worst That Could Happen” made it to number one on the record charts in December of 1968. Carolyn and Tommy both graduated in 1963.

Many thanks to Dennis Naso for being our Master of Ceremonies. His opening act was a classic and should be seen by all (and you can…see the later announcement about a video). He was assisted by Lillian Manzo who might have been suffering from jet lag. Her week leading up to the reunion left her breathless. She was totally rejuvenated, though, when she met up with her old friends.

It was nice to see Claire Williamson from the class of 1956 and Jack Flynn from the class of 1959. We were very happy to see John Muldoon, Rich LaSala, Doris Williamson, Doug Moran, and wife Barbara Lorenzo, from the class of 1960.

Tommy Doherty, also from the class of 1960, and wife Ginny Kolenik, class of ’61 were seen walking from table to table. They were reminiscing with other students about their lives since high school.

Ed Delaney and Mary Ann Delaney deserve a special thank you for the courtesy they extended to early arriving alumni Friday night. Ed and Mary Ann are owners of Delaney’s Restaurant located on South Oyster Bay Road in Hicksville. They provided a beautiful buffet Friday night that was enjoyed by a mixture of alumni. Thanks Ed and Mary Ann.

Tony Genovese and wife, Roe Marchese, traveled from Fort Myers in Florida to be part of the reunion. Also making the long trip were Shelly Heyman (Naples), Nancy North (Merritt Island), and Linda D’Amato (Orlando).

Many thanks to Mike Bisaccio and Mary O’Shaughnessey for making the arrangements at Holiday Inn. The accommodations were terrific and contributed to the atmosphere of the evening. Billy Canham, an integral part of the reunion committee, sends his regrets about not being able to attend. He is recuperating from some physical problems.

Thanks to long time friend, Rob McCotter, for sharing his time with us. Wife Nancy said it was one of the best times she’s had in years. And Kelly Kinsella (class of ’90) was there having just arrived home from Orlando where she was vacationing. Too bad her mom, Ann Sullivan (class of ’59) was unable to make it as well as sister Dawn Kinsella (class of ’85).

Gary Holstein and Mike Jaycox, friends of Hicksville alumni, did some filming on Friday at Delaney’s and again Saturday at the Holiday Inn.

They will provide a video from he reunion in two forms, DVD and VHS tape. They hope to have it ready by the end of June. The DVD will have menus to access different chapters; i.e. Delaney’s, Nite Riders, Opening act by Dennis Naso, or just play all.

The VHS is just straight play. Both will contain about 30 minutes of the most interesting highlights of the night plus still photos provided by others.

Listed below are prices and additional options. DVD Keep Boxes and printed discs are quite involved with artwork, special discs and printers. Therefore, substantial interest in these options will have to be met in order for them to be worthwhile to produce.

DVD Keep Box with Printer Inserts
It’s the same as the box the DVD comes in when you buy it at the store, approximately 7.5” by 5.5”. The artwork will have to be designed and will probably be the Comet logo with additional pictures. There will be no VHS art.

Printed Discs:
Artwork printed directly on the disk (special type of disk, special type of printer). Not a paper label. Paper labels can unbalance the disk enough to screw up the playback. The mastic can come unglued by the heat generated laser beam and the glue can totally destroy your player.

Standard DVD in a white envelope…$25.00
