Hicksville Vietnam War Era Memorial UPDATE -
3/1/20 Fund Raising:
With no new donations in February, total donations remain at $39,333.
With the Memorial just about complete, we have roughly $3,700
left that is available to us. This
does not leave much for dedication ceremony expenses and future
maintenance. So, if you have yet to donate,
or wish to make an additional donation, now would be a great time! You
can still become part of the Memorial if you can spare as little as $10
for this worthy cause to recognize your fellow alumni who served our
Great Country. We will very much appreciate any amount you can spare. Remember, all donations are
tax deductible. Just follow
the simple instructions below. Your
generosity will be very much appreciated. Donation checks should be made out to: Hicksville Vietnam Era Memorial Project And should be mailed to: Hicksville Vietnam Era Memorial Project The total number of donors remains at
211. All donors
(individuals, couples and groups) are listed alphabetically at the end
of this update. Memorial construction is now complete.
We have agreed that the Memorial looks great as currently
constructed and hence have pretty much dropped the idea of adding to the
height of the Center Stone with a suitable image, which helps conserve
our remaining funds. Actual construction was
completed in November, 2019. Alumni
and other readers can now drop by to see the Memorial; however, as
previously announced, we are delaying the Memorial's Dedication
Ceremony until the spring, when the weather will be better for an
outdoor event. An
announcement of the date and time of the Dedication Ceremony will be
made soon and at least a month in advance of the ceremony. The
announcement will be posted in HixNews, as well as on the two Hicksville
Facebook pages, which are: "You Know You're From Hicksville, NY
If" and "The Hicksville High Alumni Foundation". Bill Walden's meeting
with the Superintendant of Hicksville Public Schools went very well!
Points of discussion included; possible dates that do not
conflict with other school activities at the Memorial's location,
along with the need for us to have a permit and liability insurance for
the Dedication Ceremony. We
are currently awaiting word on this from the Superintendant, who needed
to confer with the School's lawyers. Once
we have the approved dedication date, it will be published in HixNews and on the two Hicksville Facebook pages, at least a month
in advance of the ceremony. FINAL Confirmed List of Names: Please
click on the following link to review the Confirmed
List of Names, organized alphabetically by graduating class year and
shown as they will appear on the Memorial: Click
here. Please note that the list of those
killed in action does not appear on the Confirmed List,
because the names of those who paid the ultimate price during the
Vietnam War, are honored with a separate plaque that contains additional
details and is placed on the Memorial's Center Stone, just below the
Memorial's Dedication Plaque. Alphabetical List of Current Donors A heart felt Thank You to all of our
