Hicksville Vietnam War Era Memorial UPDATE -
2/1/20 Fund Raising:
Two new donors and one repeat donor contributed $175 in January, putting
total donations at $39,333. With
the Memorial just about complete, we have roughly $3,700 left after
deducting payments made to date. This
does not leave much for a possible enhancement to the Memorial,
dedication ceremony expenses and future maintenance.
So, if you have yet to donate,
or wish to make an additional donation, now would be a great time! You
can still become part of the Memorial if you can spare as little as $10
for this worthy cause to recognize your fellow alumni who served our
Great Country. We will very much appreciate any amount you can spare. Remember, all donations are
tax deductible. Just follow
the simple instructions below. Your
generosity will be very much appreciated. Donation checks should be made out to: Hicksville Vietnam Era Memorial Project And should be mailed to Hicksville Vietnam Era Memorial Project The total number of donors has now
reached 211. All donors
(individuals, couples and groups) are listed alphabetically at the end
of this update. Except for the above
consideration, construction was completed in November. Alumni
and other readers can now drop by to see the Memorial; however, as
previously announced, we are delaying the Memorial's Dedication
Ceremony until the spring, when the weather will be better for an
outdoor event. An
announcement of the date and time of the Dedication Ceremony will be
made soon and at least a month in advance of the ceremony.
The announcement will be posted in HixNews, as well as on the two
Hicksville Facebook pages, which are: "You Know You're From
Hicksville, NY If" and "The Hicksville High Alumni Foundation". Bill Walden has a meeting
scheduled with the Superintendant of Hicksville Public Schools on
January 29th to discuss usage of the school grounds at the
Memorial Garden location for our dedication ceremony.
Points of discussion will include; dates that do not conflict
with other school activities at or nearby that location, the need for us
to have a permit, along with any need for us to have liability
insurance. We will be able
to report on this in the March 1 issue of this newsletter. FINAL Confirmed List of Names: Please

killed in action does not appear on the Confirmed List,
because the names of those who paid the ultimate price during the
Vietnam War, are honored with a separate plaque that contains additional
details and is placed on the Memorial's Center Stone, just below the
