Hicksville Vietnam War Era Memorial UPDATE - 6/1/19

Fund Raising: Two donations last month from one new and one repeat donor,  added $320 to our total!!  Total donations are now $36,533.

The total number of donors is now 204.  All donors (individuals, couples and groups) are listed alphabetically at the end of this update.

Please know if you have yet to donate, you can still become part of the Memorial if you can spare as little as $10 for this worthy cause to recognize your fellow alumni who served our Great Country. We will very much appreciate any amount you can spare.

Remember, all donations are tax deductible.  Just follow the simple instructions below.  Your generosity will be very much appreciated.

Donation checks should be made out to:

We began accepting donations in October, 2014, upon achieving tax-exempt status from the IRS.  $3,400 was raised in the remaining 3 months of 2014, $6,200 in 2015, $8,300 in 2016, $16,488 in 2017 and $675 in 2018.  The new total well surpasses our original $25,000 goal and expectations!  We owe this result to all our donors who have helped achieve it over the past 4+ years!!

Memorial Construction: The Memorial's footers were successfully poured on Saturday, May 4th.  The center stone was ordered on May 11th, secured by a deposit that confirms it's mounting on the footers, with the dedication and KIA plaques secured to it, no later than mid-July.  The delay was caused by an unexpected lead time of 6 to 8 weeks for the center stone to be delivered from Vermont to the local monument builder we are working with.

An announcement will be made on a date for the Memorial Dedication Ceremonies after the center stone is in place.

We will be ordering the nameplates for the entire Confirmed List of Names this month, along with the remaining two stones upon which they will be mounted, one left and one right of the center stone.

When we started the project, we never knew we'd collect nearly 2,000 names!  Since the final list is so large, we tried abbreviating the data next to the names as shown in a link to last month's update, only to find that the abbreviations would require extensive notes to explain them and would not really reduce our engraving costs.  We have therefore now decided to eliminate the active duty locations from the list of names as the Memorial's "Vietnam War Era" title and the center stone plaque's wording well describe that all those named served their country during the Vietnam War in some capacity, whether in Vietnam, or elsewhere in the world.

Hence, each engraving will include the full name (last, first and middle initial) of all who served, followed by their respective branch of service.    All names will still be listed alphabetically by graduating class year.  The new  link below,  will enable you to view the listings as they will appear on the completed Memorial.

The List of Names is now FINAL, so we can proceed to order the engraved plates after our plate vendor gives us a complete quote for approval.
