Hicksville Vietnam War Era Memorial UPDATE - 4/1/19

Fund Raising: Two donations in March, one new and one from a repeat donor, added $150 to our total, which is now $35,333, with a net total of $34,458 in our bank account after past IRS filings.

The total number of donors is now 199.  All donors (individuals, couples and groups) are listed alphabetically at the end of this update.

Please know if you have yet to donate, you can still become part of the Memorial if you can spare as little as $10 for this worthy cause to recognize your fellow alumni who served our Great Country. We will very much appreciate any amount you can spare.

Remember, all donations are tax deductible.  Just follow the simple instructions below.  Your generosity will be very much appreciated

Donation checks should be made out to:  Hicksville Vietnam Era Memorial Project

And should be mailed to:

We began accepting donations in October, 2014, upon achieving tax-exempt status from the IRS.  $3,400 was raised in the remaining 3 months of 2014, $6,200 in 2015, $8,300 in 2016, $16,488 in 2017 and $675 in 2018.  The new total well surpasses our original $25,000 goal and expectations!  We owe this result to all our donors who have helped achieve it over the past 4+ years!!

We are finally moving towards actual construction of the Memorial, now that spring is here and the weather is starting to warm!!  John Tranchina, HHS 1964, who is heading up the construction phase for us will do a walk through at the Memorial site with Bill Walden and school officials on 3/29 to make sure everyone is on the same page before construction actually starts.  We are still hoping to pour the Memorial's concrete footers during the week of April 22nd, when the Hicksville School District is on spring break.   A small portion of the footer depth will be seen above ground.  After the footers are in, the center stone will be constructed first and will have the Memorial's center plaque at the top, followed by an engraved list of all those from Hicksville who were killed in action during the Vietnam War.  We are still planning to dedicate the footers, along with the completed center stone first, likely late this spring,   The last two stones will contain the full bronze plate listings of all names and data from the Confirmed List, organized by class year.  There will be an official dedication ceremony, hopefully in late September, or early October.

To save on the cost of engraving, the full names (last, first and middle initial) of all who served will be engraved, but the data next to each name has been abbreviated.  For example, if a veteran's active duty service was in Vietnam, we are using RVN as the Republic of (south) Vietnam was then known.  If the veteran served in Japan, we are using JPN, Germany, GER, Continental USA (CONUS) will be shown as US and so on.  All names will be listed alphabetically by graduating class year.  Please see the link below, which will enable you to view the the listings as they will appear on the completed Memorial.

We received some help in filling in missing data for the Confirmed List in March, but progress here remains very slow.  This may likely be your last chance to send in missing data, as once we start engraving the nameplates, it will be too late!  We hope you can help us on this during April!

Please review any of the links below to see if you can help us with still missing data.  The abbreviated list, organized now by graduating class year, is now the quickest way for you to find the names of classmates you may know. please help us by reviewing both lists when you select the "click here" options near the bottom of this update.

Here's how you can still help us:

If you know of someone who is not listed, or if you have information we are still missing, please email what you have to Joe Carfora at jcar4a@aol.com.    Please use the information contained in the Confirmed List as a guide for the data needed to complete a name's listing.
