Fund
Raising: Due
to vacations, this report only covers results through mid-July.
Donations were $50 from one new donor.
This brings our current total to $18,952, with a total of $18,077
in our bank account after last year's IRS filing deduction.
The
total number of donors has reached 179, still a very small percentage of
nearly 2,000 HixNews readers. Donations
are only 9% of our readership.
If you have yet to donate and can spare as little as $10 for this
worthy cause to recognize your fellow alumni who served our Great
Country, we can achieve our needed goal of $25,000 soon. Remember,
all donations are tax deductible. Just
follow the simple instructions below.
Your generosity will be very much appreciated. Donation
checks should be made out to: Hicksville
And
should be mailed to: Hicksville
An
alphabetical list of current donors appears at the end of this monthly
update. We
began accepting donations in October, 2014, upon achieving tax-exempt
status from the IRS. $3,400
was raised in the remaining 3 months of 2014, $6,200 in 2015 and $8,300
in 2016. If we can raise an additional $7,100 this year we will achieve
our final goal. So far, however during the first 7 months of 2017, we
have only raised $1,030, way behind the rate needed to complete the
Project. Recent
Accomplishments: The Hicksville Fire
Department will hold their yearly golf outing in September and is
interested in donating part of their proceeds to the Memorial Fund.
The website link in
HixNews that will make credit card donations possible and easy to
accomplish was delayed, since the key bank contact for our account was
on vacation. We now hope to
have this link available for publication in the September 1 issue. Terry Wallace
(Memorial Construction Committee Chair), recently visited monument
companies in Greenport and Riverhead to show them current photos of the
existing stones in the In May, Bill Walden
filed our 2016 IRS tax return. The Confirmed List
of Names remains at 1,911. No
additional progress has been made on the missing data for many names.
We continue to need
help from all our readers here!! As a HixNews reader, please help us by reviewing both lists when you
select the "click here" options near the bottom of this update. To
save you time, just look for names from your class year and other years
you may be familiar with, as a reference and see if you have a new name
or some missing data on existing names to email to us.
Class years, where known, are specifically shown and missing data
is marked in red, to make it easy for you to see what's needed. The Unconfirmed
List was created to specifically insure we don't leave anyone behind
from earlier class years (the 1940's and 50's) who served during the
Vietnam War Era and deserve recognition.
Please see if you can help us establish if these folks served
during the Vietnam Era (Vietnam Era dates are shown in the "Memorial
Qualifications" section below). Memorial
Qualifications:
Overall Qualifications for the Memorial were displayed monthly in
this report for a long time and have not changed.
If you are a new reader, or have reviewed the qualifications
before and want to remind yourself of them, please check a January, 2015
or earlier issue of HixNews by
going to the Hixnews archive
section on the website. Here's what we need from
