Fund Raising:
Donation receipts for November were $240, bringing the current
total to $9,057 against our needed goal of $25,000 to construct, place
and maintain the Memorial. We
are getting there slowly, but certainly appreciate everyone who has
generously donated so far. The Project Team needs
your support and we certainly trust donations will pick up in the new
year, after the Holidays are over. The total number of donors is now at 82,
with four new donors once again added in the past month. Our $25,000 goal is very
achievable, especially if every reader would spare as little as $10 for
this worthy cause. The majority of HixNews
readers have not yet donated, so please come through for us as soon as
you can! Remember, your donations are
tax deductible. Just follow
the simple instructions below. Your
generosity will be very much appreciated. Donation checks should be made out to: Hicksville Vietnam Era Memorial Project And should
be mailed to: Hicksville Vietnam Era Memorial Project An alphabetical list of current
donors appears at the end of this monthly update.
Many of the donations
have been accompanied by notes thanking the Project Team for its efforts
to build the Memorial. Such
notes make our work even
more gratifying and are very much appreciated. Memorial Status:
The Center Plaque for the Memorial is awaiting final approval from us
and otherwise awaiting shipment to an stone masonry near Hicksville for
mounting. Once that is
accomplished the Memorial will be able to be placed within the Jerusalem
Avenue Middle School's Memorial Gardens at the site selected by Bill
Walden and the former superintendent of Hicksville Public Schools, two
years ago. Once the Memorial
has been placed and dedicated in a ceremony at the site, the name
plaques will similarly be engraved, stone mounted and added to the left
and right of the Memorial's Center Plaque and Stone.
One
new name was again added to the Confirmed List in November and our total
now stands at 1,900 names. There
has been no change in the Unconfirmed List of Names for some time now.
We continue to need help from all our readers here!! As
a HixNews reader, please help
us by reviewing both lists when you select the "click here" options
near the bottom of this update. To
save you time, just look for names from your class year and other years
you may be familiar with, as a reference and see if you have a new name
or some missing data on existing names to email to us.
Class years, where known, are specifically shown and missing data
is marked in red, to make it easy for you to see what's needed. The
Unconfirmed List was created to specifically insure we don't leave
anyone behind from earlier class years (the 1940's and 50's) who
served during the Vietnam War Era and deserve recognition.
Please see if you can help us establish if these folks served
during the Vietnam Era (Vietnam Era dates are shown in the "Memorial
Qualifications" section below). Memorial Qualifications
and Project Team:
We are proud to officially add Bob Casale
as a Project Team Member. Bob,
a Naval Veteran of the Vietnam War Era, has helped our efforts in
innumerable ways over the years and without his help we could not be
where we are today! Overall
Qualifications for the Memorial have been displayed in this report
monthly for a long time now and have not changed.
If you are a new reader, please check a past issue of HixNews for qualifications and the list of other Project Team
members. Here's what we continue to need from each person reading this to
