Great job Bob I had tears in my eyes watching this. Merry Christmas

Pete Maiorino 1964

Excellent ---- just one minor detail - the original Goldman Bros was across the street on the side of Broadway they tore down..I should look for some old Hicksville Pictures.... Not sure if I have any .....I remember when Cantiague Park was a big field.. and RR crossing always causing our bus to be late to Jr High... and High School. And the huge Memorial Day Parade that started from the Mid Island Mall to the Jr High.... Keep up the memories

Bob Bittner 1968

I Loved the U tube videos. I left Hicksville in 1970, so now I really do not recognize most of the places. But what an amazing job! I loved the early history, and was never aware of any of it. I thought Hicksville mostly just sprouted up from the Levitt Company. Great to see, what a nice Christmas present. Peace from Utah .

Hi Bob,

Thank you so much for the presentation. You did a fabulous job. I am forwarding it to my brother, John Knight who lived in Hicksville long after I left. He was a volunteer fireman in Hicksville for many years. I know he will appreciate it.

I am sorry I missed the reunion but I have enjoyed all the pictures. Thank you for all you did to make this and the reunion possible. If you are ever in San Diego give a call.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas Bob,

I cannot even begin to express the power that your " Hicksville - Then and Now" had on me.  What an absolutely wonderful trip back in time - such a good time in many of our lives.  I lived at 14 Gables Drive across from LILCo.  My father worked at the bakery next to the old sweet shop.  On that same side I believe there used to be a Chinese restaurant named "China View" where my mother and I would have lunch on Saturdays quite often.  When I looked at the Farmer's Market, I could not help remembering "Vito's" - for me, especially the "egg & pepper hero"!  I was employed by General Electric and began my career in the Space Division.  We were housed in trailers behind Plant # 5 inside the Grumman complex.

I believe my high school friend Janice Nolan (now Honohan) dated Robert Mazzone who was one of the 16 from our school who did not return from the war.  I will forward your documentary to her.  She lives out in Stonybrook but, just recently, decided to get a computer!!!

David and I attended my 45th reunion and, God willing, hope to attend my 50th.

Please know I appreciate all the effort you put into this documentary and consider it a "warm fuzzy" and unexpected early Christmas present.  I still have tears running down my cheeks - "tears of joy"!

I wish you a Healthy Happy New Year 2012.

God's Peace,

Patricia Anne Stephenson Jordan  1962

I am sitting here on Christmas Eve afternoon watching your power point and reminiscing about my time in Hicksville . We moved off the Island about 19 years ago , the last time I was back in Hicksville was when my Mom died 12 years ago . I took my then 16 year old daughter on a little tour so much had changed. Watching this presentation just brought back so many memories . Thank you !

Dear Bob,
What a wonderful presentation!  You did an extraordinary job.  A terrific piece of work.  I was surprised to find that you lived on 2 Berry Lane .  I lived just two blocks from you on 23 Memory Lane , the corner house.  Of course, I'm about 5 years older than you, so we never met, but I wouldn't be surprised if I babysat for you at some point!!!!  I haven't been bk to Hicksville in many years.  Everyone in my family has either passed away or left Long Island and, as a Manhattanite, I gave up driving in 1967, so never had a chance to see L.I.  Did go bk for my 50th reunion by the L.I.R.R., but it was dark by the time I got there.
Thank you for reminding me of my youth.  It very nearly brought tears to my eyes.  I will never forget Hicksville .
Merry Christmas and best wishes for health and happiness in 2012!
Sincerely,

Harri Molese, class of 1956

Excellent presentation! Thanks so much for putting this look at past and present for all of us. It was great to take a walk down memory lane this holiday season

Hi Bob

Thanks for uploading the fabulous video.  Sure did bring back memories!

I'm from the Class of '64, now living in Florida (15 years).  I visited NY back in 2008 and took a tour of Hicksville .  Of course, I was astonished at the changes, but can still remember how it was in the 50s and 60s. Thanks again for your effort.

Cathy DeGaidano Milano 1964

Editor Note...Cathy...What was your maiden name. I don't see you on our mailing list.

Thanks

buffalo bob casale

Good morning Bob....

My maiden name was DeGaidano.

My family had a farm on New South Road until about 1951, then when the farmland was sold to developers, we all moved to various places in Hicksville .  I went to St. Ignatius on E. Nicholai St. until the 8th grade, then on to Hicksville Jr. High for 9th, and ultimately to the High School  10th, 11th, and 12th grades, graduating in 1964.

Thanks so much for your response!

Cathy

Interesting.

When my family moved here from Bayside back in October of 1955, I went to the high school in the 8th grade. This was the year the high school was opened.

I had Mrs. Miller for my teacher and my homeroom had Joe Hawxhurst, Gene Froehlich and Cynthia Roberts as part of the class.

I think Gene was a farmer and Froehlich Farms was where he worked.

I don't see you on the mail list for the newsletter. Have you been reading the monthly publication?

Let me know.

Thanks

Warm Regards

buffalo bob casale

I didn't know any of the people you mentioned, but I remember the name Froehlich - Marilyn Froehlich was in my class at St. Ignatius.

I don't get the monthly publication, but would like to be added to the mailing list.

None of my family is left in Hicksville . I do still have cousins living in Miller Place and Port Jefferson - and they were originally located in Hicksville . My father was very involved with the Joseph Barry Council, Knights of Columbus. As I recall they had a building on Heitz Place - across from the old courthouse.

Some of my classmates were

Sally Kriegel    Carol Jablonski   Diana Santoriello   Kathy Falsone

John Foley       Tommy Sullivan    Sal Mistretta     Nancy Sheprow

Regards,

Cathy

Well done Bob!

I haven't been back to Broadway since the late 70's and this was an eye opener.

Keep up the good work!

Best wishes for a happy and healthy 2012.

Steve Rose'69

P.S. When my family moved to West Hicksville ( Cantiague Lane in Westbury Hills, right down the road from the famous Rock), they used to take us to the Maine Maid and Millerige Inn. I had no idea about the history. I was into shrimp cocktail!

P.P.S. This year I had a Comets hoodie made up

at an on-line company, see photo. I wear it with pride around Charlottesville , Va. Most folks I talk to think it's a made up name.

I haven't been back in 30 years. I so enjoy the look at past and the

now. Holy Smokes Gertz is now Macy's.

Thank You

Nice work Bob. You're right about (Gus) Reidlinger's Towing location. He had quite a fleet of trucks with his motto on the side of each: "Don't Cuss, Call Gus" !

Dear Mr Casale,

I really enjoyed your presentation on Hicksville .  I left in '75 and havent been back, so this was a great way to bring back some memories. I realize you cant cover everything, but I was disappointed that you didn't mention the Gregory Museum ( is it still there? ) as it was the original Jail for Hicksville once upon a time...

Thanks again!

Dear Bob,

I've always admired the work you've done with the Hicksville News.  Now I'm here to say thank you for the pic/video of Hicksville Then & Now which a classmate posted on facebook today.  Although I moved away many years ago, Hicksville has and always will be in my blood!  My brother, Steve, passed away a little over a year ago - he was from the class of '59 - and always looked forward to the newsletter.  There are 4 more Spector's that still look forward to the newsletter (classes of '62, '65, '74 and '78).  Thanks for the many memories!

WOW!!!

I don't know if it was you, Ray Feierstein or Richard Penndorf who pulled the Hicksville Then and Now videos together but somebody deserves a MAJOR round of applause for an outstanding job!!

The memories came rushing home to me.  I haven't returned to Hicksville in probably 15 years but after watching the videos and seeing how many things have changed, I WILL RETURN SOON!

Thank you for all the effort that went into those videos and thank you even twice as much for the salute to Hicksville 's fallen soldiers near the end of Part 2.  It was moving indeed!!!!  Thank you!

Thank You so much for this presentation. Beautifully done and I am sure you put a lot of time into making this for all of us. I appreciate you and all that you do, with keeping us in touch with Hicksville .

Hi Bob,

What a great presentation - an unexpected Christmas present!  The historical pictures brought back a lot of memories of seventh grade social studies where we studied local history with Mr. Evers.  He got us so involved and, in response to the end of the LIRR steam era and his plans for a Hicksville Museum, a bunch of us went down to the old freight station at lunchtime and attempted to rescue an old broken down Railway Express Agency luggage cart.  After being told we needed a request in writing from the school, we settled on pulling up one of the round posts with a ball top that was used to keep vehicles away from the station.  We took it back to the Junior High and left it at the door of Mr. Evers classroom.  I have always wondered what he thought when he found it there.

Larry Anton 1961

Bob, Thank you for sharing this wonderful presentation you created. What a great Christmas present for all us former Hicksvilleites.

You did a great job putting the power point about Hicksville together. It brought back all those fond memories of growing up in there. I still to this day remember the memorial day parades as a Cub and Boy Scout marching down Broadway from Mid Island Plaza.

The memorial section was very well done. It made me recall the day we heard about Carl Kozma, my friend was his brother-in-law he was first missing in action then found. It was a big blow to us as kids, Carl was our Boy Scout troops (508) first Eagle Scout. We met at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church at the corner of Jerusalem Ave and Old Country Road. That time in my life helped me to become an Eagle Scout three years later.

Thank You

John Ohrnberger Class of 76.

Thanks, Bob, for all the memories.

 Happy holidays Bob:

I love it!! Great work!!. You covered a couple of century's worth of Hicksville history in 30 minutes... I especially liked the photos of Ed Delaney and you at his restaurant. I knew Ed for my entire tenure at HHS and remember you as the guy who ran 100 yards in 9:9 seconds, a school record!

Steve Alfieri 1960

That is/was wicked cool, Bob. Thanks loads.

Thanks Bob! I enjoyed both videos - obviously lots of work went into this.
Best wishes,

Thanks so much for the work you did to share this with all of us, Bob. I'm afraid I'd be completely lost if I were to return to Hicksville today. My memories are "as it was." You've refreshed those memories!

Bill Palmer '64

Dear Bob,

Great job on the Hicksville videos. I don't usually sit still long enough to watch a 20 minutes of video but these compelled me to watch and enjoy.

I spent all of my growing up years in Hicksville and felt very lucky to have lived there 1960-1978.  Seeing part one made me wish that some of those old homes would have been left up on Broadway and that it wouldn't take much to rejuvenate that road and give it back some of the charm that it once had.   Your video brought back some nice memories including joyful trips to that old lumber yard, Farmer's Market and vague memories of the High School being built and what a crowned jewel it felt like when it was done.  The church, of course, where all of my sisters were married and I spent many a Sunday.  Thanks for letting us all know about the memorial bricks in the park. I may dedicate a few of those myself.  Your tribute to our fallen children was also appropriate.

Was Mike Pakaluk the same Mike who had 2 boys, Mike and Jimmy?

Thanks again for the memories and happy holidays.

Sylvia Alimena

Thank you so much for this wonderful gift...brought great joy.  Happy New Year to you and yours.

WOW OH WOW!!!

Can't tell you how much I enjoyed the videos and walk down memory lane! Thanks for all the time and effort you put into producing them. I'm Joan Blake Endee Cosgrove Class of '64. My parents also graduated from Hicksville High ( George Blake, Jr. and Marian LeDoux Blake) as did my daughter (Lynne Endee) - and my son (Brian Endee) was at the Junior High when we moved to Florida. My father's photo is in the baseball picture and his first "real job"  location was at the Aviation Country Club. He later went on to work at Grumman for 40 years. We lived on East Street and my Dad, daughter, son and I attended East Street School. My grandfather (George Blake, Sr) managed the lumber yard you referenced. At one time he and my grandmother lived on Broadway.

My aunt (Margaret LeDoux Schlitz  ) and uncle (Frank Schlitz) were Hicksville graduates too and she worked in the bakery on the corner and he worked in a car dealer near the A&P on Marie Street. They later went on to work at Grumman for 30+ years. I could go on and probably write a book after jogging these memories.

I've always been saddened to see the "progress" made to Broadway. I remember when the Hicksville Mall was just a "lot" and Santa came in a helicopter to bring presents............

Thanks again

Bob,

Thank you for a wonderful presentation. It left me in sentimental tears. Hicksville has played such a big role in my life. Moved in  to a #1 Levitt home in 1950 (#1is the model number). Learned to ride a bike, went to the Village Green, attended Nicholai, East Street, Junior and Senior High School. Married my HS sweetheart and will be married 50 yrs this May. Still keep in touch with a nice group of classmates /class of '59 along with your sister Eileen. Tony and I each got a HHS comets sweatshirt from our daughter this Christmas. Orange and Black means more to us than Halloween. I wish you and your family the happiest off New years.

Bob,

By now you might have found out how to get the presentation uploaded to the reunion website. In addition to creating the page on the website for the presentation, the webmaster is also the one who would have to upload the file to the web server and create the link from the web page to that file. From the information on the website, it looks like Pat Appleman Levitin is the webmaster.

Now all I have to do is find/make the time to look at the presentation. I've seen some of the rave reviews in response to the YouTube posting of the video.
