Robert Edward Gleason Wesley

1943 - 2010

ROBERT EDWARD WESLEY, 66, of Eggleston Drive , Dannemora , N.Y.
Died Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010, at the CVPH Medical Center . He was born in Rockville Center , N.Y. , Dec. 9, 1943, the son of Edward J. Gleason Jr. and Florence ( Elizabeth ) Phillips. Calling hours were Sunday, Feb. 14, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St. , Plattsburgh , N.Y.   A funeral service followed at 4 p.m.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is with a most selfish sadness that I must report on the passing of Robert Gleason Wesley.  However, I take great comfort knowing he is no longer suffering on this earth.  Knowing Bob's religious beliefs, he will be with us always.

Were it not for Bob Wesley and Bob Casale ( Buffalo Bob), our Newsletter would not be what it is today.  When Bob Wesley developed our Web Site, we were off and running.  Bob provided the tools that permitted an evolution from a simple email newsletter into a viable website.

No matter what his health or problems were, Bob could gladden your heart with his terrific sense of humor.  He put up with my propensity towards Lucille Ball and gave me the nickname "Loocey", his patience was unwavering. His devotion to the Newsletter was true.

His "Geek" column provided some helpful insight into the workings of a computer and gave us "Geeks" the ability to act as computer pros. Several notes from former alumni who had "personal" problems fixed because of Bob's "personal" touch went unnoticed. Why??? Because Bob never looked for an attaboy. He took great pride in helping others, and that trait is part of his legacy.

I will greatly miss our weekly talks and our daily e-mails.

Bob Wesley, a gentleman and a gentle man.

Love,  Loocey  (Linda Piccerelli Hayden '60)

Dear Heather,

I hope you will accept my condolences and prayers at the passing of your father this past week. I thought you might like to hear how I had a unique and lovely experience when meeting your father in 1980. I believe, totally, it was some kind of out of this world intervention.

My soon-to-be husband and I lived in the Plattsburgh , NY area in 1979-80 and were getting ready to be married in July of 1980.  Like most young couples at that time, we were trying to decide if a DJ or a live band would be the best bet for us.  We loved music and we loved to dance and we really wanted the interaction of a live band.  So we did some hunting, asked around, and The Bob Wesley Trio was recommended to us by our caterer, the Officer's Club on Plattsburgh Air Force Base (closed by BRAC back in the early 2000s).

My parents, my husband and I met with Bob at the venue and we chatted; I liked him and his personality right away, and we decided, on the spot, that Bob would be our entertainment provider.  As we chatted, we learned that not only was Bob a transplant to the " North Country " as we were, but that he had actually attended my high school AND had been a classmate of my eldest brother, Jim Thompson (HHS '61).  I knew, more than ever, that Bob had been the right choice!  J

The wedding reception was spectacular; Bob and his group couldn't have been better or more suited to us and to our guests.  His humor, his talent and his professionalism added SO much to our special day! And, as an added bonus, my brother was an usher in the wedding party and had a chance to visit with Bob as well.

Over the years we would see him periodically around Plattsburgh, such as when sailing on the Juniper dinner cruises, but it was his part in making my wedding day the best party my husband and I have ever attended -- even to this day, nearly 30 years later! -- for which I remember him most.

I know I am not alone in expressing my gratitude that your father touched my life in such a memorable way.  I wish you and your family peace and gratitude for sharing him with us.

Pat Thompson-Dumas (Hicksville High School Class of 1975)

I am very sad to hear about Bob! When we heard he was going to a nursing home, and wouldn't be going home again, was not a good sign. While I did talk to him on the phone, most of our communication was through emails. He was a really nice guy and will be missed greatly!

I am saddened by the loss of, yet, another Hicksville grad and although I didn't know him, it seems that we are all getting up in years and I don't know when it happened. It just seemed to happen without me realizing it..

Blessings to all who share his loss,

Sorry to hear this--thought he was so much better. I appreciate your letting us know.

I hope you get the message from Pat Dumas because it was a lovely tribute. I did not know your father but this was a very moving tribute. I'm sure he was a great man.

Thank you Bob for letting us know about Bob Wesley's passing.

Please let the family know that I send my condolences. Bob was great in his super contributions to the Hicksville High School Newsletter. His Technical expertise in developing the Web format enhanced the presentation of the information each month. The Web Format has also made it easier of all of us to access the newsletter.

Hi, Bob.
I spoke to my brother, Jim Thompson (61), last night. He wanted to let you know that Hicksville High School Class of '61 was represented at Bob Wesley memorial service yesterday. He said it was a very lovely service, really, and he was glad to have been able to go.

Best,

I am remiss to say I didn't know Bob. From all that has been written so far, it is my loss. Could someone pass along a snapshot of what made up his life. I read the short obit in the Plattsburg paper but got no insight into the man and what made him unique. Just looking at his face below tells me much as to what he was made of. I would love to know more.
With all my condolences to his family and friends.

I am truly sorry to hear of Bob's passing. I never met Bob, but I know he was a good friend to my sister Pat. He did take the time to contact me and my family when Pat passed away last year, even though Bob was in the hospital at the time.
My condolences to his family and friends. He will be missed by many.

Dear HixNews...
Thank you all so much for the birthday card!
It's very appropriate as I was a Thespian at HHS from '62-'64.
Thanks again.

I had a death in the family and I'm just getting to my e-mails now.

p.p.s. ...I also just noticed something while working on the power point presentation I am creating for those alumni who served their country in the military.

I noticed the name Ralph Henne on the wall at the junior high.

Was he related to your husband???

Dear Joe
Thanks so much for the info regarding the meeting about the Veterans Administration and its benefits that is scheduled for January 21st at the VFW Hall in Hicksville .  Unfortunately I will be unable to attend but I think I would not benefit from attendance.
We have an excellent  V.A. hospital in Richmond and I have been receiving a high level of care there for over thirty years since retiring to Richmond  to be close to two adult daughters.
Also, with respect to other benefits, I have remained informed over the years and am receiving entitlements.  However I would welcome a copy of any after action report that you might publish and request a copy be mailed or e-mailed.  The event you are planning to hold sounds like an excellent idea and parallels similar activities that are promoted by nearby Ft. Lee at least once each year.
On another subject, I have been searching for a photo that I could send you but haven't found one yet, an unexplainable reason after 31+ years of military service.  We still haven't found several books of photos after our 3-years-ago move to the current address.  I'm sure the photo books are in the attic with all the other "stuff" we don't refer to very often.  Will keep looking.
Give my regards to Broadway.  We haven't been back for many years but old places like Guckenberger's Ice cream shop, the bakery, the movie theatre, HHS and the sports programs including the Hicksville Town Team, are never far removed from Sonya's and my memories.
God's peace

Thank you for the birthday greetings. It was truly appreciated. Also, thanks for the great job you do with the newsletter. Read it cover to cover every month. Keep up the good work.

Terry (Ferrin) White (1954)

Bob, could you help the class of 1960 out with something.... in the next HixNewsletter would you be able to feature our upcoming 50th reunion. We noticed that the 35th is on front page again when their reunion is not until July and not ours, which is in early June, has not been featured. We are trying to get the word out so we can have good attendance.

Let me know what I can do to get us featured.

Thanks, Bob.

Kathy McDonald Corey '60

I don't recall getting any information about your reunion. Date, time, where etc. Will gladly put a note on the main page. Just give us some particulars.

Editor Note....see an exchange between Henry and Joe further down in the notes...

Bob,

I'm glad to hear that Joe Green has been found. I think the idea is to get him to subscribe to HixClass60, so that he can participate in the Class-of-1960 50th-Year Reunion. He and others who may have been located should send an email to: hixclass60+subscribe@googlegroups.com

Alternatively, if they can't manage that, they can send an email to me and I will subscribe them myself. My email address is hl98@cornell.edu (that's a letter "l" before the 98, NOT a number "1").

HixClass60 is the gathering point of all the alumni from the HHS Class of 1960, just as HixNews and HixNews2 are the gathering points for all alumni and friends of HHS, regardless of their year of graduation.

Best, Henry

Regretfully Neil Lensky died about 10years ago.
He lived across the street from me and was a great friend.
Gary Bleck, as of 6 months ago, still lived in the same house from High School

Thought you might like to see a picture of Frank Koziuk (class of 1967), my brother, and me, Kathy Koziuk (class of 1960).  We got together when he came to Florida on vacation.  We met at the Blackwell Inn in Astor, FL.  The picture is (left to right) my husband, Roy Hannaman, me, Kathy (Frank's wife) and Frank.

We hadn't seen each other for about 6 years so it was a nice visit.

Hi guys,

Just a quick note to thank you for the beautiful Anniversary card.

Unfortunately, my other news is sad as I don't see Judy Richards on the deceased list.

We were friends for many. many years and she is truly missed.

Keep up the good work,

Hi,

Would appreciate it if you could supply the email address for Tom Haller or contact him for me.  My mom recently passed away and he posted a message on Newsday's obit website.  He was our next-door neighbor when we were growing up.   I believe he's in Vero Beach, Florida.  It's been about "a hundred" years since I saw him.

Thanks.

Hi

We are contemplating a 60th HHS Reunion for the graduating class of 1950.

As in the subject area, we would like to include 2 yrs. prior & 2 yrs. after.

How many people would be willing to come to Hicksville in October (preferably around Oct. 16????

Grace (Callejas) Marie (Calandrillo) and Dorothy (Kunz) Drago are willing to plan this event at the Knights of Columbus in Hicksville.

We will utilize Reunions of America to help us with this interesting project.

Please get back to either Grace or me.

Grace's email is: Away@optonline.net

and mine is ddrago9447@optonline.net

A response would be appreciated ASAP.

Thank you.

Dorothy Drago '50

Bob...

Diana (DiPalma), my wife, asked me to respond to your request.

First of all, attached please find a picture of Hope Lambert from our yearbook.

With regard to your question about Ralph Henne.....  my father had a cousin named Ralph. When I met him (Uncle Ralph), he lived with his wife and two children in Farmingdale. They later moved to Bayville. My father also had an aunt and uncle who lived here in Hicksville. Ralph may have been their child, however I am not positive. Let us know if you need anything else.

Dear Editors

In the Woodland Ave Grade 5-2 picture 1960, I recognize someone. The blonde girl wearing a checkered jacket seated in the back (in front of the boy standing with the black tie.) Her name is Ruth Ellen Rogers. Ruth graduated in 1967.

She passed away about 15 yrs ago due to breast cancer.

Dear Editors

Would you add this note to the newsletters next issue? I love the old class photos from elementary schools. If you still have your old photos and access to a scanner, please scan them into your computer and forward them to the Hix Newsletter. There are probably many classmates whose class photos have been lost over the years and would love to see them again in the newsletter. I have put all of mine in photo albums on Classmates.com for the schools that I attended. If anyone has a class photo from Old country road school, 4th grade, 1958, Mr. St. John- Teacher, please scan it and send it to the newsletter. I am missing that one from my own collection.

Thanks,

Bill Hackmack '66

Dear Editors,

Thanks for the latest HixNews. This was the first time I've seen Artie Romeo's name in the news. It was good to see and timely because while going through a box of old pictures recently I came across the attached one of Artie and me taken just before a HHS concert. We both played the double-bass.

Dear HixNews,

Back in the late sixties I worked at the Madison Avenue advertising agency, Young & Rubicam (Y&R), for four years as staff photographer. It was like another college education and many of us who worked together then consider ourselves "Alumni" of this great institution.

For the past 25 years I have been the organizer of an annual Holiday Luncheon just before Christmas. At first it was 8 - 12 of us meeting at a pizza joint for camaraderie and some laughs. Through word of mouth over the years my guest list has grown to 157 people, 104 of whom attended our most recent affair. People travel from far and wide -

this year quite a few from California, one from Hong Kong, one from England, others from Aspen, Santa Fe and lots of other places. Last year we were 76, the year before 36, and so on. It's been an explosion of people connecting joyfully.

Every year, too, I've taken a group photograph before everyone left. This year's was a real challenge. The attached picture is made up of eight different exposures I combined in the computer along with several other separate images of people from 2 separate passes of the group.

I've known these talented people since 1967 and quite a few of us stay in touch almost daily. It's quite amazing.

These are the real "Mad Men and Women" of Madison Avenue.

Denny Tillman '60

Good morning,

I have signed on to receive the HixNews. I am a graduate of HHS class of 61 I would like to be included on the list of current subscribers. Don't know if you need any other information. I currently live in Monmouth County, New Jersey.

Thank you.

Regards,

Elaine Krauss O'Neil

------------------------------------------------

Hi Elaine,
I have added your information to our HixNews data base, including the
list of names of Newsletter subscribers. The reason you weren't on the
list before is that you probably subscribed yourself to HixNews, without
informing the editors. That's OK, of course, if you wanted to simply
subscribe to the Newsletter announcements, but the editors wouldn't know
that you had done so, until now.
In any case, thanx for letting us know that you are on board. I have
assumed that your maiden name is Krauss; you wrote your name differently
in the body of your email and in your signature. Let me know if I have
made the wrong assumption.
Welcome aboard.

Best, Henry

------------------------------------------------

Henry,
Thank you for your message and getting me on board with HixNews.  Yes I
did in fact subscribe myself so that's why I wasn't included.  You are
correct assuming my maiden name was Krauss, married name ONeil.  I look
forward to finding out what's going on in my hometown and with my
classmates of 1961.  I have already reconnected with a few and look
forward to continuing that process.  I currently live in N.J., but N.Y.
is always in my heart.
Thank you again and I look forward to catching up on all the Hicksville
News there is to be had.
Regards,

Elaine

Thanks for the birthday card...it brought a big smile to my face and to the faces of everyone who shared it with me.

If you went through the Hicksville school system, you should know the name Joe Scalia. Not only is he an accomplished and published author, but as an inspiration to people everywhere. I first met him as my 7th grade English teacher (remember track's one, two and three?) He treated his students like they were young adults, knew how and when to crack a joke or tell a great story. Most of all,  he was a voice of the times, late 60's and early 70's. He encouraged us to speak out and voice an opinion, to get involved and to be as good a student as we could be. To this day, Joe communicates with his students who are now his friends. Lets put this man into the Hicksville Newsletter Hall of Fame. All readers of the great Hix Newsletter, lets get Joe Scalia into the Hall of Fame!!!!

Bob, I need help in doing the following:

  •  How to put who I am looking for on the list of People Looking for People.
  • We are still looking for about 80 people from our class.
  • Writing a note that gets posted on The Newsletter section.

Please advise - thanks -

Send a note to Henry and ask his opinion on the best way to represent the list. hl98@cornell.edu  Perhaps an excel file might be appropriate and perhaps he can create that for you. You send a note to editors@hixnews.com and your note will be placed into the newsletter section. Still don't have any information on your reunion so it can be put onto the main page.

Let me know.

Dear HixNews
Thank you so much for the birthday card. This was really cute and thoughtful. The gang at Hix news is doing a great job. I enjoy the info I get down here in Georgia.

Anne (Kappel) Byrne

Anne

Are you related to Billy Kappel??? Bill and I have been friends for years. And where do you live in Georgia? I'm in Augusta.

Warm Regards
Buffalo Bob Casale

---------------------------------------

Billy is my brother and is living in in Acworth, Georgia. I will fwd this to his wifes e-mail if you like. I don't think he has an individual  e-mail  but he may and I just don't have it. I see him very often. What a small world. I think there are a number of Hix transplants down here. I am going to try and make the Feb 20th alumni gathering in Hicksville.

Annie
---------------------------------
Yes, please forward to Bill.
Your dad, Dad's brother Frank and a Bob Stanley bowled together in the Woodbury Bowling League. I think their team was called "Hudson Carpet." I had a trucking business, Gabrielsen Trucking with my brother in law, Otto, and made carpet deliveries to them at Hudson Carpet in the Bronx. My main account was Consolidated Carpet in Long Island City. I remember when dad passed away, stopped at a light. And I Frank's wake and it was held near the Throgs Neck Bridge in the Bronx. So many years ago. And when Bob died, that was the pits.
Warm Regards

Buffalo Bob

--------------------------------------

Wow blasts from the past.

I clearly remember Consolidated and the years when my Dad his brother Frank and Bob bowled together I agree that Bob's death was very painful for the family. I know my brothers friend named Otto...is he the same Otto that is your brother in law?  Did you know Tommy Helmrich also? I will send this on to Bill through Lynne.

Annie

--------------------------------

Yes, it's that Otto. Tommy and Otto were best friends. It's so sad that Tommy passed. He was one helluva guy.

One night, Otto and I were making a late delivery in Rockland County. We had the van so loaded with carpet and padding that I was crouched on the floor where the passenger seat was before we had to take it out to get the stuff in. We had a blowout at 65 miles per hour at the Rockland County end of the Tappan Zee Bridge. To this day I have no idea why we didn't flip over or crash. The tire was shredded and Otto was driving on the rim. It was probably around 5pm or so and a big rainstorm was beginning. Thunder. Lightning. Scary. We sat in the van during the storm, praying. We had no spare. Called Kathy (Saurer) Otto's wife, and she had to call Tommy Helmrich who went to his gas station and gave our spare to Kathy. Then Kathy picked up Joyce (my wife) and the two of them drove up and gave us the tire. We still had to make the delivery and that was about midnight, I think. We even stopped off and had a cup of coffee and something to eat. Why not?

Warm Regards

Bob

Hi Bob,

I'm almost positive that Tom Doherty was at the multi-year reunion 3 years ago held in Westbury.  If you have contact info for him could you let me know what it is so I can pass it on to Reunions-Unlimited who are organizing the 50th for the class of 1960.  Thanks.

Hi
My brother in law is Steve Ruggiero (I forwarded the email to him).
Rosemary Krabbler Berger passed away a year or two.

Good Luck finding all others. Also my cousin, Mary Romano Williams, passed away 5+ years ago (cancer).  She would have been 63 years old this year (Romano was her maiden name). Not sure of her graduating class. You may want to make a notation of her passing.

Thanks...

Linda A. Ruggiero

p.s. Also, the last I heard was Howard Schack lives in Suffolk County (I know his wife passed away a few years ago)

Hey Henry, in your tabulation of where HHS alumni are living, you forgot me, here in London, England!

Hope to see lots of you at the reunion in June, am flying in with my husband, Neil. I think we should all have a beach party at Jones Beach on day 2 of the reunion!!

I enjoyed the newsletter as usual. Thanks to the editorial team,

Hello Henry,

Nice to hear from you, even indirectly. Thanks for adding me to the HixClass60 group list. In the past I've gotten occasional notices from the HHS alumni group in general . I attended an all-class reunion about ten years ago at the Huntington Town House. (Editor note...the reunion was September of 2000 and about 1,850 former students attended). But, by and large, have had little contact with most of the class members.

One significant exception is Kurt Stietz, who's also a ham radio operator, so we do talk occasionally. I have to thank Kurt for providing my contact information to Jack Gould. Another exception is Ivars Bemberis and his wife Jeanette Arnold. We see them both on occasional trips to the DC area. I assume you already have their information, since they don't appear on the list of the missing.

Unfortunately, since you're in the Class of '59, I'm assuming you won't be at the '60 reunion, although I'm sure you'd be welcome. It'd be nice to see you again.

Hope all is going well for you in Durham and thanks for taking on the task of communications manager for the HHS groups - not a small job by any means.

Best regards,

Joe Green

---------------------------------------------

Hi Joe,

Thank you for your friendly note. I don't actually have the info for the people you mentioned -- you can view all those who are currently subscribed to HixClass60 here. The so-called "missing" list is incomplete, and has had about a dozen errors corrected by me, so far.

I did attend my class's 50th last October. I doubt that I will be able to make it to yours this year. It would be nice to see some friends from the class of 1960 ...

I am copying our email exchange to the Newsletter editors, which most likely will make it to part of next month's Newsletter. If you prefer to keep this conversation private, however, let me know and I'll ask Buffalo Bob not to include it in the next Newsletter.

Best, Henry

Dear Henry

I received this email but do not show up as a member My name is Sandy Smith... maiden name Sandra Klausing...

Dear Sandra,

When you subscribed yourself to HixNews Group you didn't notify the Newsletter Editors that you did so, which is why we weren't aware of it. Without going into extreme detail, the newsletter staff was attacked by a former student.

Basically, we were told our publication is worthless, very poorly presented, and the staff consists of individuals who have no idea what they are doing. The sad thing is the individual seemed to be an okay guy. However, the devil came out and we were the victims.

The outpouring of support from our subscribers tends to assuage the ferocity of the attack

Thanks to all for being there for us.

The Gang at the Hicksville Newsletter.

p.s. below are some comments from our alumni

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, guys, this is a perfect example that from something bad comes something good. The attack on you and the team has evoked a strong support and appreciation for what you do. We have all appreciated it but most have not been verbal about it. See, what always happens, is out of something bad comes something good.

Kathy Corey '60

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Kathy,

Thank you for your vote of confidence; it is really appreciated.

Once in a while we do encounter a guy like (name withheld). But that just makes me appreciate, all the more, people like yourself, Jack Gould, Maddy Leibowitz, Joe Carfora, and all the Editors I work with.

I have had a lot of experience interacting with people online, both in groups large and small, and with many individuals. It never ceases to amaze me how ridiculously some people behave when they interact with other people online. For some reason, people often lose their self-restraint when they are online, presumably thinking that what they write in an email can't come back and bite them in the butt. But it can; and it does.

A good rule of thumb is: Never write anything in an email that you wouldn't want to appear on a bulletin board that your friends, colleagues, and other people you interact with can see.

The really amazing thing about (Name withheld) is, I am not even sure he is a Hicksville High alumnus. He never provided his year of graduation to the Editors. So basically, he asked us to do him a favor, and then got irate because he didn't understand that the favor had been granted. For free, of course. All the Editors are volunteering their time and effort, and some of this stuff takes a not insignificant amount of time, I can assure you.

Best, Henry
p.s. we did find out subsequently that he was a graduate from the class of 1975.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Bob,

I didn't see it, but after I wrote to this guy Kathy McDonald Corey told me about it.  Do you know who this guy is?  As I'm sure you saw from what Henry wrote, Henry is not even sure he's a HHS graduate.  I emailed my brother (class of '64) and asked if he knows him, but haven't heard back yet.  This guy (name wittheld) is a piece of work; you have to wonder what his problem is.

Take care.  And while we're emailing, thanks for all you do for this website.  It's terrific.

Having barely graduated,(with no general improvement over time, I had to Google "knowledge":
1) information in mind: general awareness or possession of information, facts, ideas, truths, or principles;
2) specific information: clear awareness or explicit information, e.g. of a situation or fact
3) all that can be known: all the information, facts, truths, and principles learned throughout time.
It would appear, then, that "useless knowledge" is an oxymoron, and this was just a lame attempt at humor.
The website is great, and you're doing a great job!

I would like to personally thank you all for the jobs you do. It not easy keeping on top of things let alone publishing them as well as you all have done. The newsletter is top notch and a very good information source. For myself having moved away from Long Island in 1981, the newsletter is a nice way to keep up to date with my home town as well as its memories. My wife even commented on how good the news letter is, even if she is from Bethpage ( Class of 77) ha ha.

I have read the recent e-mails and just wanted to comment on the fact that, people like myself really do appreciate your efforts.

Thank You

From the name you can see that they take vets fly fishing. Most likely they also teach as well. I felt his name and organization should get some PR for the work they do.

Dear HixNews...

I got this email today and it brought tears to my eyes...how very sad...a beloved landmark..GONE!  The water tower at Jones Beach, gone??? How many times did the sight of that tower bring a cheer to our voices in the family car. I thought it might be something to put in the newsletter.

Doreen (Jakabek '65) Wittig

'Tis a shame.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

What a BUMMER!!!!!!!!!

That water tower was a landmark that we all used to draw us to the beach.
When I say draw us to the beach, I meant that was the catalyst to our directivity.
We could see the tower from a distance, and, if we started drinking early, the tower was always there as a beacon to guide us in the proper direction.

Bob Wesley
Blessings to you, your family and all sentient beings.

Dear HixNews

I have a death notice to report. And it's a rather sad story about one of the Alumni from 1964. His name was Onifrio Chicco.

I knew him since we started out together in grade school at Dutch Lane. Over twenty years ago, and I think the year was 1985; I was working in the OR at Stony brook University Hospital. On the particular day I saw Onifrio. It was in the pre-op holding area where patients go prior to their surgery. He recognized me immediately and we began speaking about his procedure, etc. He was thrilled to see someone he knew prior to his "going under" anesthesia. His operation was for a brain tumor. I think during our conversation he may have also said he did time in Vietnam. He was very grateful that he was able to speak with someone he knew before going to surgery. I told him I would see him again a few days after his procedure and when he felt up to having company.

A few days later, at the end of my shift, I went to the floor to visit him and see how he was doing. The nurses at the desk told me he had passed away. He was only in his thirties. If anyone knows any more about his life prior to his illness, I would like to hear about it.

Maybe Jay Tranchina can check on his status of military duty.

Judy Marcus Shivers '64

Morning,

I know this gentleman's face and will look him up...just don't recall his name.  I do recall Judy Marcus. I truly hate hearing about young folks who pass away.

Dear HixNews

I have a vague recollection of "Chico" from HHS. I remember he was friendly in those days with my cousin Volkert (FRED) Fruedden. I think I remember Fred saying Chico was going into the service shortly after high school.
To the best of my knowledge, Fred returned to the Hicksville area after his Navy days but I do not remember him mentioning Chico to me again.
Fred passed away a couple years ago, shortly after being diagnosed with cancer.

Dear Bob,

Thank you all so much for the Anniversary card, it is beautiful and we love that song. I got the email about Bob Wesley last night. He was such a good, kind, fun guy we also put him on our special friend list.  After reading the note from Heather I just sat at the computer and stared, not expecting it would hurt that bad. We make a lot of friends on the Internet but some like Bob Wesley and you and Pat get to be special ones.

Thank you for being you.

Buffalo Bob Note...I'd really like to make the reunion. Have to evaluate what's going on here with Joyce. I want to keep her at home as long as possible. Been sending her to an Alzheimer's Day Care Center on Tuesday and Thursday. She makes a face like a child when the bus pulls up to get her, but at least she's away from me for a while and seeing "different" faces. Plus the people at the Center are wonderful.

Bob

Your group continues to do a great job. I rarely see anyone or anything on my class. I lived in Hicksville and Syosset till 1970 when I was transferred to Georgia and have been there ever since. I was able to get a luncheon 50th reunion of our class. We had about 25 people. I do have some pictures if you all are interested. I did find an article the other day of the old Hicksville Airpark that my father help start. I bet only a few people remember that airport.

I would like to hear from Cyril Rumens or Dot Frevogel former classmates.

Again thanks for the great newsletter.

Norm Nichols  '52

...absolutely...everyone loves pictures and yours would be enjoyed by all.
And the article on the old Hicksville Airpark would be neat especially since your dad helped start the project.

Good Day:

I spent some time on Long Island, and worked directly with Dale Schultz who has an entry in Mar 2008 vol 8 issue 6. I have been trying to re-establish communications with him for years. Would it be possible to get his e-mail address from you, or if needed could I ask that my e-mail address be forwarded to him. I am hoping that you may have the said address in your database - if not any suggestions?

Thank you for your consideration in this matter,

Dear HixNews...

Thank you for the nice anniversary card. Janet (McMenamin) and I are celebrating 45 years of marriage on the 20th of February.

We have 4 grown children and 7 grandchildren. Two of our sons live in the Atlanta area with 5 of the grandkids. One is an exec for an insurance company; the other is a school principal. Our daughter has two of our grandchildren and has been living in the Netherlands for 20 years. She directs the marketing of health programs for seniors in Holland. Our youngest son manages a small architectural firm in Seattle Washington. I retired from Avon Products Inc in 2006 after 40 years, mostly in middle management positions, but have been doing consulting for them in the US and Japan on a part time basis since. Janet is still working as the VP of Administration for Jackson Healthcare, a $400 million company in Atlanta. We have been in Atlanta since 1978 as part of a corporate move for me.

I also fill my days doing some local community volunteer work. I still stay in touch with Bill Dylewski and an occasional email from Hank Cierski and Walter Pollack. Life has been good.

Thanks again.  I enjoy HixNews

I know she dated Nick Quatrone for awhile but that was back in the fifities (that sounds nasty the 50's) but I thought they didn't get married. Hey Bob

We, my wife Lorraine and I, are currently at a 70-acre lake in the North Poconos of Pennsylvania (Gouldsboro). We are about 20 minutes south of Scranton and about 15 minutes north of Cove Haven and the Mount Airy Casino. We have an on-site trailer, not one that you drive. The trailer is on 1 of 2,700 lots that surround the lake. It's a really great place. It is a gated community with 24-hour security. There is a tremendous clubhouse and they have a huge outdoor pool. There are many activities set up for kids.  It looks like a resort and there are cocktail parties and dances. The annual dues not very expensive by today's standards. Lots and trailers can be purchased in prices ranging from $10,000-15,000; $18,000- 30,000 and 40, 50, 60 and up to 150 thousand around the lake. Some have decks and sheds, some don't There's something for everyone there. Last year the association had a mortgage burning ceremony at the annual concert...25 million was paid off. Ours is rated one of the top communities in the country.  I'll try to get some pictures of the area off to you.

Been meaning to ask...you were married to Joyce Gabrielsen?

She was one of the girlfriends of Pat Warren whom I was engaged to.

Her friends were Ann Lynn Brough, Ginny Van Allen and Kathy Kapsol.

They all lived in the same neighborhood.
