Armed with a knife, Bryan J. Weixler approached a 17-year-old
on South Oyster Bay Road in Hicksville on Sunday and demanded his
money, police said.
A witness grabbed the knife-wielding Weixler from behind, disarmed him
and held him until two off-duty New York City police officers could
step in and detain him until Nassau County Police arrived on scene,
authorities said.
Weixler, 22, of Harrison Avenue in Bethpage, stands accused of
first-degree robbery in the attack.
He was arraigned Monday in First District Court in Hempstead. Details
of his arraignment were not immediately known Tuesday. Police said the
incident occurred Sunday at 3:45 a.m.
The weapon and proceeds of the robbery were recovered.

The
man who police said assaulted a 40-year-old with a beer bottle during
a disturbance outside a Hicksville cafe last summer was arrested
Monday in Plainview, following a long investigation.
Nassau County police said they arrested Matthew Mirsky, 31, of Sherman
Avenue, and charged him with assault.
Police said the incident occurred outside Charles Avenue Cafe on
Woodbury Road at about 4:30 a.m. on July 20. It was then, police said,
that Mirsky hit the male victim in the forehead with a beer bottle,
causing "serious injury."
Mirsky was arrested in Plainview, police said. He was charged with
second-degree assault and is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in
First District Court in Hempstead.

Arrests in L.I. Day School Carrot-Choking Death Case
The
owner and assistant director of a Long Island day care center where a
2-year-old choked to death on a carrot stick were charged Wednesday with
reckless assault, reckless endangerment and running an unlicensed day
care for toddlers
Grand jury subpoenas were served on both centers
Friday morning, and officials took student records, a copy of the
school's charter and licensing records, several sources confirmed.
Formica's attorney, Robert McDonald of Mineola, said Carousel is a
well-run school, and that any lack of proper licenses was "through
inadvertence, not through malfeasance."
"While
this incident was certainly tragic, this licensing issue had nothing to
do with the death of the child," McDonald said. McDonald said that
Formica is devastated by Raspanti's death, and will cooperate fully with
the district attorney's investigation.
On Friday, Olivia's father, Anthony Raspanti, 35, of Hicksville, said
that any investigation into what happened is welcome.
"I don't want another family to go through what we've been
through," he said.
Where to get great ice cream
Here's the scoop on
local independent and chain parlors
One of the best places to get great ice cream. The Hicksville Sweet Shop,
of course.
What is amazing…the number of students, from all years, who spend time
at the Sweet Shop. The old time students not only stop by for ice cream
and shakes, they also stop by for dinner…for lunch….for comradarie.
