Street School. I assume it is third grade room 21 based on the notes
at the bottom.
My brother Robert Wood is standing- 6th from the right.
Neil Sullivan is standing- 3rd from the left.
Cathy Tranchina is sitting- right side, 2nd from bottom of page.
That's all I know.

The photo was sent in by Kathy Millevolte's cousin, Barbara McDonough, class of '70. The coach of the team is Kathy Millevolte's father, Lewis
Millevolte. She has no other info on the picture!
Bob Casale, '61 said he recognized Charlie Saurer; second from left kneeling.
We then sent out a message to several readers on our list who may have been in HHS around what we guessed was the time of this photo, asking for their help.

I played Hicksville baseball from 1941-1945, this picture is around l938-l941. I can help with a few: low row, 7th from the left is Dick Rennie, top row, 5th from left is Bill Bordeaux (known as Birdie), top row, 12th from left is John
Hennigan. Coach Millevolte was also my coach.
The fellow directly behind the batboy's crossed bats is William "Parkey" Pakaluk, my brother-in-law who died in 1942 while serving in the U.S. Army in Alaska. My husband, Mike, seems to think the year the photo was taken could be 1939 but he's not positive and unfortunately can't help with other identification, since he was a bit younger than his brother.
Thanks for all you do in putting together the newsletter. It's enjoyable and I look forward to it every month. Too bad there isn't more contribution from folks from our days at HHS.

Dear Pat,
I wish I could name them all, though I think that I recognize a few whose
names I don't know and a very few whose names I do know, all be it in most
cases just the last names. Okay, here goes:
The 5th from the left rear row: Bill "Birdie" Bordchiuck
The 3rd from the right rear row: Cheslock
The 2nd from the right front row: Vogel
The 4th from the right front row: John (?) Pakaluck
Coach Lou Millevolte is far right middle row (holding the bat).
My best guess is that this was taken c. 1938.

Dick Rennie, and the bat boy is an at-the-time future athlete "Gabby"Gabarino by name. Thanks again for this "blast from the past"

There is a correction of a name that I gave you:
William J. Pakaluk, Jr. (not John) Also my brother Gene picked out the
young man by the name of Phil Pignataro who is on the far left of the
middle row, and also Jake Schluter front row, second right. I'll let you
know if I discover more possibilities. We both remember Ed Coleman very
well. He was one of the finest all-round athletes in HHS history. My
late brother Milt thought so too.

Golly, what fun to see such handsome young men. I am Cecelia Schwarz (maiden name), class of 1944. I surely do remember Coach Millevolte--such a "techie" name. I was one of the Plainview girls who played baseball with boys until I came to Hicksville. Seems to me that the local shoe store was also Millevolte (some relative, I guess). Bought my first pair of high heels there.
I have corresponded in the past with more useful information. I live in Palo Alto, California and after marrying classmate Robert Youden, I divorced him and married another "techie", Harrison Horn.
I have been very sorry to learn that Fred Kochersberger (Married Lucille Keller from Plainview) passed away about a week ago. They live in Waynesboro, Virginia. Their daughter (Linda Kochersberger) should be in your email system. Fred was a survivor of the terrible Guadalcanal fighting with the Japanese.
I remember all kinds of useless things like the Coach's name was Louis A. Millevolte. My sister, Elizabeth Schwarz Lamb might be more helpful as she was a cheerleader. She lives in Florida and knew more jocks than I did.

The baseball picture that was sent in was from the 1936 team.
I found another picture that is attached that was taken the same time
the other was taken. I think we should include both pictures and ask for our
alumni to name names, if they can.
I do know that Charlie Saurer is kneeling in the first row, second from the left.
Lou Millevolte is standing on the right with the bat on the ground.

The team was 7 Wins 4 Losses They beat Westbury 2 times, Sea Cliff 2 times, Oyster Bay 2 times and Farmingdale. They lost 2 times to Mineola, 1 time to Farmingdale and 1 time to Oyster Bay.

BACK ROW: Man in suit (unknown), Fred Fluckiger, unknown, unknown, William Borduik (sp?), unknown, Philip Pignataro, William Reimals, Merrill Yarotsky,--- Hanifan, Eugene Pastuzenko (sp?),and you are right coach Louie Millevolte. The puzzle for me is the man in the suit in the back row. I would guess he's a coach but if so I would have had lots of contact with him, but I don't remember ever seeing the man. More to follow.
