Hicksville Vietnam War Era Memorial UPDATE – 11/1/20

Fund Raising: With Bill Walden arriving home in September, our books are now reconciled and the List of Current Donors is now up to date (see below).  October donations amounted to $50 from a new donor!  Total receipts are now $40,833.  Expenses to complete the Memorial totaled $35,592, leaving us a balance of $5,241 for future needs.  Additional donations from this point forward will be used to cover Dedication Ceremony expenses and future Memorial maintenance.

If you have yet to donate, or wish to make an additional donation, your generosity will be very much appreciated!  You can still become part of the Memorial by sparing as little as $10 for this worthy cause to recognize your fellow alumni who served our Great Country!

Remember, all donations are tax deductible.  Just follow the simple instructions below:

Donation checks should be made out to: Hicksville Vietnam Era Memorial Project

And should be mailed to:

Hicksville Vietnam Era Memorial Project
c/o William Walden
245 West 9th Street
Deer Park , NY 11729

The total number of donors is now 217.  All donors (individuals, couples and groups) are listed alphabetically at the end of this update.

Memorial construction was completed last November. The Dedication Ceremony was delayed for winter weather considerations and now the Pandemic.  In the meantime, alumni and other readers can  drop by to see the Memorial.  An announcement of the date and time of the Dedication Ceremony will be made after we have a legal “all clear” on the Pandemic and at least a month in advance of the ceremony.  The announcement will be posted in HixNews, as well as on the Hicksville Facebook pages.

As Hicksville’s Board of Education has had to turn their attention to managing the school district under the Pandemic, we do not expect to hear from Superintendant Litzman regarding possible dedication dates,  the need for insurance, or a permit for the Dedication Ceremony, any time soon.  Bill Walden will be following up on this.

FINAL Confirmed List of Names:

Please click on the following link to review the Confirmed List of Names, organized alphabetically by graduating class year and shown as they  appear on the Memorial: Click here

Please note that the list of those killed in action does not appear on the Confirmed List, because the names of those who paid the ultimate price during the Vietnam War, are honored with a separate plaque that contains additional details and is placed on the Memorial’s Center Stone, just below the Memorial’s Dedication Plaque.
